Who can use ANZ Shield?

You are eligible to register for ANZ Shield if you have:

  • an iPhone running iOS 5.0 or above
  • an Android phone running Android 2.2 (Froyo) or above

ANZ Shield is available for use with ANZ Internet Banking and ANZ Internet Banking for Business.

How do I register for ANZ Shield?

Existing ANZ Internet Banking and ANZ Internet Banking for Business customers:

  • Log on to ANZ Internet Banking.
  • Select 'Profile' from top menu.
  • If you’re using ANZ Internet Banking, select 'ANZ Shield' to begin registration.
  • If you’re using ANZ Internet Banking for Business, select ‘Manage ANZ Shield/ANZ Security Device’ and then ‘ANZ Shield’
  • You'll be guided step-by-step through the simple registration process.
  • To register for ANZ Shield, you will be asked to verify with your existing security method.

New ANZ Internet Banking customers:  

  • If you don't currently have ANZ Internet Banking, you can apply for ANZ Shield when you're completing your ANZ Internet Banking registration.

Your phone or tablet requires network connectivity and push notifications enabled to complete the ANZ Shield registration process.

How do I generate a Shield Code?

Open the ANZ Shield app from your registered phone, and then enter your four digit ANZ Shield PIN to automatically generate a unique six digit Shield Code. You'll only need to generate a Shield Code if you are prompted to do so during an ANZ Internet Banking payment or activity.

Please note that a Shield Code is different to a Sync Code. If you are being asked to enter a Sync Code into the ANZ Shield app, you will need to log into ANZ Internet Banking and complete the registration process to generate a Sync Code.

I use ANZ Internet Banking for Business. Can I register for ANZ Shield?

Yes, you can register for ANZ Shield if you use ANZ Internet Banking for Business.

When will I be asked to provide an ANZ Shield Code?

For ANZ Internet Banking you'll be asked to provide a Shield Code to authenticate certain payments and activities that ANZ considers high risk. The frequency will depend on how often you perform these payments and activities.

For ANZ Internet Banking for Business, you’ll be asked to provide a Shield Code to authenticate all third party payments.

I no longer want to use ANZ Shield. Can I deregister?

ANZ Shield has been designed to add an extra layer of security to your banking so please consider if deregistering is the appropriate action for you.

For ANZ Internet Banking, you're able to deregister ANZ Shield at any time.

If you have access to ANZ Shield on your phone or tablet:

  • Log on to ANZ Internet Banking and select 'ANZ Shield' from the 'Profile' menu.
  • Select 'Deregister' from the 'ANZ Shield Hub'

For ANZ Internet Banking for Business, you can deregister ANZ Shield by calling the ANZ Internet Banking for Business Help Desk on 1800 269 242 between 8am to 8pm AEST Monday to Friday. If calling from an overseas destination please call +61 3 8699 6906.

What is the difference between ANZ Shield and an ANZ Security Device?

ANZ Internet Banking for Business requires either a soft or hard token when performing all third party payments. You can select one of the following:

  • ANZ Shield (free security app from App Store or Google Play). Each Authorised User must download the app and register via ANZ Internet Banking
  • ANZ Security Device (a physical device which is posted to the business address). Each authorised user must register via ANZ Internet Banking

Note: If selecting ANZ Shield, once you’re registered, ANZ Shield will be used to authorise transactions on all linked CRNs (including all personal CRNs) and any ANZ Security Device(s) will be de-registered from all linked CRNs (unless previously nominated).

What should I do if my phone is lost or stolen?

Please note: When you find your phone or get a new phone, you'll need to register again for ANZ Shield.

How do I turn on push notifications?

This varies by device and operating system. If you need help to switch on push notifications, you should refer to the user guide for your phone or tablet. Depending on your phone settings, you may receive a pop-up message when you first open ANZ Shield asking you allow push notifications; if this happens, you should click ok/allow.

What is the difference between a Sync Code and a Shield Code?

A Sync Code is generated within ANZ Internet Banking and entered into the app as part of the ANZ Shield registration process. A Shield Code is generated using the ANZ Shield app (by entering your ANZ Shield PIN into the app) when you are prompted to do so during an ANZ Internet Banking payment or activity.

I have received a Developer Settings error message when opening the ANZ Shield app. What do I do?

Developer Settings (also known as Developer Options) must be disabled in order to use ANZ Shield.

Locating these settings varies by device as they are often hidden within the Settings menu. If you need instructions on how to locate and maintain these settings please refer to your device’s User Guide.

My Developer Settings do not appear to be enabled. Why am I receiving an error message when I open ANZ Shield?

In some cases your Developer Settings may already be enabled in the background on your device (not visible to you). To ensure the Developer Settings are disabled you may need to first enable the settings and then disable them to use ANZ Shield.
