Who can use ANZ Shield?

You're eligible to register for ANZ Shield if you:

  • Are a personal or business customer using ANZ Internet Banking
  • Have an iPhone running iOS 5.0 or above
  • Have an Android phone running Android 2.2 (Froyo) or above.

If you're a business customer using ANZ Internet Banking for Business, you will continue to use your existing ANZ Security Device which already provides you with an additional layer of security. ANZ Shield is available for use with ANZ Internet Banking only.

How do I register for ANZ Shield?

Existing ANZ Internet Banking customers:

  • Log on to ANZ Internet Banking.
  • Select 'Profile' from top menu.
  • Select 'ANZ Shield' to begin registration.
  • You'll be guided step-by-step through the simple registration process.
  • To protect the security of your ANZ Internet Banking registration, you'll be asked to answer your Challenge Questions when registering for ANZ Shield.

New ANZ Internet Banking customers:

  • If you don't currently have ANZ Internet Banking, you can apply for ANZ Shield when you're completing your ANZ Internet Banking registration.

Your phone or tablet requires network connectivity and push notifications enabled to complete the ANZ Shield registration process.

How do I generate a Shield Code?

Open the ANZ Shield app from your registered phone, and then enter your four digit ANZ Shield PIN to automatically generate a unique six digit Shield Code. You'll only need to generate a Shield Code if you are prompted to do so during an ANZ Internet Banking payment or activity.

Please note that a Shield Code is different to a Sync Code. If you are being asked to enter a Sync Code into the ANZ Shield app, you will need to log into ANZ Internet Banking and complete the registration process to generate a Sync Code.

Why should I register for ANZ Shield?
To get more out of your ANZ Internet Banking, register for ANZ Shield which allows you instant and immediate access to additional ANZ Internet Banking services while at the same time providing an additional layer of security to make your Internet Banking even safer. How many phones can I register ANZ Shield on?
ANZ Shield can only be registered to one phone per ANZ Internet Banking Customer Registration Number (CRN). We recommend that you register ANZ Shield to the eligible phone you use the most.
Why isn't ANZ Shield available for my phone?
Currently ANZ Shield is available for iPhones running iOS 5.0 and above and Android phones running Android 2.2 (Froyo) and above. We're looking to introduce ANZ Shield to other phones in the future.
I use ANZ Internet Banking for Business. Can I register for ANZ Shield?
ANZ Shield cannot be used with ANZ Internet Banking for Business. If you're a business customer using ANZ Internet Banking for Business, please continue to use your existing ANZ Security Device.
Can I register for ANZ Shield on the same device that I'm using for ANZ Internet Banking?
When you first register for ANZ Shield, you will need to have ANZ Shield downloaded onto a device other than where you are running ANZ Internet Banking. For example, if you have downloaded ANZ Shield to your tablet, you should use your computer to run your ANZ Internet Banking session.
Will ANZ Shield work if I don't have network connectivity?
Once registered, ANZ Shield can be used to generate a Shield Code on your registered phone without network connectivity.
Will ANZ Shield work overseas?
ANZ Shield will work overseas. It doesn't require an internet connection to generate a Shield Code but you must have your registered phone with you if you wish to use ANZ Shield. If you're planning on leaving your phone at home and will use ANZ Internet Banking while overseas, we recommend you deregister ANZ Shield before you travel. You'll need to register for ANZ Shield again when you return.
When will I be asked to provide a Shield Code?
You'll be asked to provide a Shield Code to authenticate certain payments and activities that ANZ considers high risk. The frequency will depend on how often you perform these payments and activities.
What happens when I get a new phone or tablet?

If you change your phone or tablet, you can transfer your ANZ Shield registration to your new phone or tablet via the 'ANZ Shield Hub'.

To access the 'ANZ Shield Hub':

  • Click the 'ANZ Shield' link under the 'Profile' tab in ANZ Internet Banking.

I no longer want to use ANZ Shield. Can I deregister?

You're able to deregister ANZ Shield at any time. ANZ Shield has been designed to add an extra layer of security to your ANZ Internet Banking, so please consider if this is the appropriate action for you.

If you have access to ANZ Shield on your phone or tablet:

  • Click the 'ANZ Shield' link under the 'Update Details' tab in ANZ Internet Banking.
  • Click 'Deregister' from the 'ANZ Shield Hub'.

What is the difference between ANZ Shield and the ANZ Internet Banking for Business Security Device?
Both ANZ Shield and the ANZ Internet Banking for Business Security Device provide an additional layer of security. ANZ Shield is an opt in app available for Android and iPhone and is used to authenticate certain ANZ Internet Banking payments and activities. The ANZ Security Device enables you to authenticate every third party transaction performed via ANZ Internet Banking for Business.

What should I do if my phone is lost or stolen?

Please note: When you find your phone or get a new phone, you'll need to register again for ANZ Shield.

How do I turn on push notifications?
This varies by device and operating system. If you need help to switch on push notifications, you should refer to the user guide for your phone or tablet. Depending on your phone settings, you may receive a pop-up message when you first open ANZ Shield asking you allow push notifications; if this happens, you should click ok/allow.
What is the difference between a Sync Code and a Shield Code?
A Sync Code is generated within ANZ Internet Banking and entered into the app as part of the ANZ Shield registration process. A Shield Code is generated using the ANZ Shield app (by entering your ANZ Shield PIN into the app) when you are prompted to do so during an ANZ Internet Banking payment or activity.
I have received a Developer Settings error message when opening the ANZ Shield app. What do I do?

Developer Settings (also known as Developer Options) must be disabled in order to use ANZ Shield.

Locating these settings varies by device as they are often hidden within the Settings menu. If you need instructions on how to locate and maintain these settings please refer to your device’s User Guide.

My Developer Settings do not appear to be enabled. Why am I receiving an error message when I open ANZ Shield?
In some cases your Developer Settings may already be enabled in the background on your device (not visible to you). To ensure the Developer Settings are disabled you may need to first enable the settings and then disable them to use ANZ Shield.
