Step 2: Add a card and register your details

add a card

  • Open the ANZ Mobile Pay app and tap ‘Add a card’. See supported ANZ cards.
  • Hold your plastic card to the back of your phone to detect the card. Each phone will have its own ‘sweet spot’ so you may need to hold the card in different positions at the back of the phone to find the location of your Near Field Communication (NFC) reader. For more details visit our FAQs.
  • Enter your date of birth.
  • Set your passcode for the ANZ Mobile Pay app.
  • Enter the number of the phone you are registering the app on. (If your number has changed recently you will need to update it in ANZ Internet Banking.)
Step 3: Choose from three payment options

choose payment option

1. Wake to Pay

There’s no need to unlock your phone. Simply wake it up and tap on any contactless payment terminal.

2. Launch to Pay

Launch the ANZ Mobile Pay app. When you see the 'Ready to pay!' banner, simply tap your phone on a contactless payment terminal.

3. Passcode to Pay

Launch the ANZ Mobile Pay app then enter your passcode. Once the app opens, you can make a payment by tapping your phone on a contactless payment terminal.

Making a payment

making a payment

ANZ Mobile Pay lets you tap and pay at any contactless terminal, just like you would with your plastic card.

You can choose from three ways to pay. With Launch to Pay and Passcode to Pay, you will need to launch your ANZ Mobile Pay app first. Passcode to Pay also requires you to enter your passcode before you can pay. Just as you would when paying with your plastic card, check the terminal to confirm if your payment has been successful.

Note: if you're spending more than $100 in a single transaction, the payment terminal will automatically ask you to enter your PIN. This is your four-digit ANZ credit or debit card PIN, and not your ANZ Mobile Pay passcode.

Remember, how you hold your phone over the contactless terminal is the key to making successful payments. Each phone will have its own 'sweet spot' so give it a go and you'll soon get the hang of it. For more details, visit our FAQs page.

Changing the active credit or debit card

You can add multiple ANZ credit and debit cards to ANZ Mobile Pay. To change the active card, simply open the app and scroll through the carousel to select a card.

For Wake to Pay, the last card used will remain the active card unless changed. For Launch to Pay and Passcode to Pay, the active card is indicated by a tick.

Using ANZ Mobile Pay on an ATM

ANZ Mobile Pay can also be used to withdraw money at any contactless enabled ANZ ATM.

Depending on your chosen way of paying, you can just wake up your phone or open the ANZ Mobile Pay app, hold your phone up to the contactless symbol on the right of the PIN pad, then enter your card’s PIN and follow the on-screen prompts.
