Medical Research & Technology in Victoria

This program provides funding in Victoria for:

  • basic clinical and biomedical research;
  • clinically relevant research on major health problems;
  • some foundations that contribute to this program have specific interests related to cancer research and cardiovascular research and applicants with these areas of interest are encouraged to apply; and
  • in the case of equipment grants, funding will only be provided for specific equipment directly related to and required for nominated projects, and not for general equipment and needs of an organisation.

Preference is given to:

  • younger investigators, establishing new laboratories or their own clinical/public health research program;
  • novel ideas requiring funding for a small discreet project or seed funding for a novel idea that has the potential to develop further;
  • applicants with projects related to cancer or cardiovascular conditions; and
  • purchase of equipment specific to the nominated research project.

Funding guide:

  • funding is limited to projects in Victoria as this is a specific requirement of the contributing foundations;
  • grants of up to $30,000 will be awarded;
  • funding is given for one year only;
  • scientific merit and excellence, as assessed by the Committee, is the crucial factor in success of applications; and
  • projects will not be funded retrospectively.

This program identifies that philanthropic funding can address the gap in funding for specialised equipment related to specific projects and the gap in funding for small novel projects.  Assessments and recommendations for funding are made by an expert panel. Grants are allocated based on the panel's judgment as to the quality of the science, the potential benefits, and in the case of applications for funding of equipment, the specific relevance of the equipment to the success of the project.

Closing date: 1 July

How to apply

Applications must be submitted on the Medical Research & Technology in Victoria application form.
