Change my Pay Anyone limit

Your daily Pay Anyone limit is one daily limit applied across all accounts linked to your ANZ Customer Registration Number and services.  It applies to Pay Anyone payments, multiple Pay Anyone payments, international services (transferring funds to an overseas bank account, purchasing international drafts and ordering traveller’s cheques and foreign currency), the purchasing of bank cheques and online charity donations.

  • If you are a personal customer using ANZ Internet Banking your daily limit range is $1,000 to $10,000 (or up to $25,000 if registered for ANZ Shield)
  • If you are a business customer using ANZ Internet Banking your daily limit range is $5,000 to $25,000 (or up to $50,000 if registered for ANZ Shield)
  • If you are an eligible ANZ Internet Banking for Business user higher daily limit up to $1,000,000 can apply.

Only the limits available to you will display in the "Change your limit" section of the "Change Pay Anyone access" page.

Changing your Pay Anyone daily limit is easy.

Navigate to "Change Pay Anyone access" page either by:

  • "Pay and transfer" menu > go to “Pay Anyone” page or;
  • "Update details" page >select "Change Pay Anyone access" hyperlink,

and follow the steps below.

Step 1 - Select and submit your daily limit
  • Select your new daily limit amount from "Change your limit" section using the radio button.

  • Click "Change my limit" to submit the request.

Only the limits available to you are displayed on this page.

Please note for ANZ Internet Banking for Business users:

  • The daily limit selected is activated and immediately available for use
  • Making third party payments (using Pay Anyone) requires your ANZ Security Device to be activated
  • The $1,000,000 Pay Anyone limit requires higher authentication by ANZ and you may be contacted for further information to verify payment details
  • If this information cannot be verified, payments may be cancelled.
Step 2 - Verify your new daily limit (options)

We take the security of your personal and account information seriously. That's why we've got a range of security measures to help verify your identity when you’re increasing your Pay Anyone Limit.

After you choose a daily limit the next steps may vary depending on the limit chosen.

ANZ Shield

  • If you are registered for our free security app ANZ Shield, you should be prompted to enter in your ANZ Shield Code
    • When prompted, open the ANZ Shield app on your phone and generate a Shield Code
    • Enter your Shield Code in Internet Banking
    • If you requested to increase your daily limit you can make Pay Anyone payments with your new daily limit effective immediately.

Challenge questions

  • If presented with a challenge question:
    • Enter the answer to your challenge question(s) and click the "Continue" button to proceed with your request.
    • If you are unable to answer your question(s) correctly you will not be able to change your daily limit
    • If you requested to increase your daily limit and successfully answered your challenge questions you can make Pay Anyone payments with your new daily limit effective immediately.

Confirmation letter with action number

  • If you are not registered for ANZ Shield or are not presented with your challenge questions, you should receive a confirmation letter in the post within five bank business days after you have lodged your application
  • Your confirmation letter will include an action number and instructions on how to activate Pay Anyone with your revised limit
  • The action number must be activated within 28 days of your application
    • For a daily limit of $5,000 you can enter in your action number on the 'Change my Pay Anyone Access' page
    • After you successfully submit the action number your requested daily limit will be available once you log off ANZ Internet Banking and log on again
    • For a daily limit of $10,000 or more, call the ANZ Internet Banking Helpdesk on 13 33 50 (International callers: +61 3 9638 8833) 24 hours a day, seven days a week
    • We will validate your action number over the phone and the limit will be available once you log off ANZ Internet Banking and log on again

Why do I need an action number?

An action number is required to activate any Pay Anyone limit higher than $1,000. It acts as a security measure that helps us identify you.

Note if you are an ANZ Internet Banking for Business user, you do not require an action number to activate your Pay Anyone limit.

What do I do with this action number?

If the action number is for $5,000, you can activate it online via the "Change Pay Anyone Access" link under "Internet Banking Settings" section of the "Update Details" menu.

  • If the action number is for more than $5,000, please contact ANZ Internet Banking Helpdesk on 13 33 50 (International callers: +61 3 9683 8833) 24 hours a day, seven days a week and quote the action number to activate your limit.
  • You will have access to the increased limit the next time you log on to ANZ Internet Banking.
How long does it take to change a daily limit?

You can change your Pay Anyone daily limit instantly when:

  • you apply for Pay Anyone access and receive a basic limit of $1,000
  • you are decreasing or removing your Pay Anyone limit/access.

You can increase your limit from 'Change Pay Anyone Access' page, and:

  • you will receive a confirmation letter in the post within five bank business days after you have lodged your application
  • your confirmation letter will include an action number and instructions on how to reactivate Pay Anyone with your revised limit
  • the action number must be activated within 28 days of your application.

For ANZ Internet Banking for Business users:

You can increase your limit from 'Change Pay Anyone Access' page and it is active and instantly available for use.

What limits are available to me?

There are different limits available to you depending on the type of accounts you have. You need to request a limit and activate it before you start making payments. Only the limits available to you will be displayed, and:

  • If you are a personal customer you may request a daily Pay Anyone limit of $1,000, $5,000 or $10,000. A basic limit of $1,000 is active instantly and available for use.
  • If you are a business customer you may request a daily Pay Anyone limit of $5,000, $10,000, $15,000 or $25,000.
  • If you are an ANZ Internet Banking for Business user you may request a daily Pay Anyone limit of up to $1,000,000.

How can I request a higher limit?

To increase your limit you need to reapply for a higher daily Pay Anyone limit using the "Change Pay Anyone Access" link via “Pay and transfer" menu > "Pay Anyone" page, or "Update details" page, and:

  • your confirmation letter will include an action number and instructions on how to reactivate Pay Anyone with your revised limit

What additional authentication is required for my $1,000,000 Pay Anyone Limit?

To support your ANZ Internet Banking for Business $1,000,000 Pay Anyone Limit, additional authentication is required for certain transactions.

Please note:

  • ANZ may contact you to verify the details of certain payments using this limit. It is important to ensure you confirm transaction details with us from your source of truth (i.e. an invoice) to prevent sophisticated fraud threats. 
  • ANZ recommends that all third party transactions of $500,000 and above are authorised prior to 4.00pm AEST to ensure we can contact you to verify payment details when required. If we are unable to contact you to verify transaction information, payments may be cancelled.  
It says I have an outstanding application - what does this mean?

This means that you have already requested a Pay Anyone limit within the last 28 days.

  • A confirmation letter with the action number is on its way to you in the post. You may wish to wait for the confirmation letter.
  • If you decide to apply for the limit again, you may do so. 
  • In this case your previous application will be cancelled, and a new confirmation letter with the new action number will be issued.
  • Your old action number will no longer be valid.
What else will this limit apply to?

Your daily limit applies to Pay Anyone payments, international services (transferring funds overseas, purchasing international bank drafts, travellers cheques and foreign cash), the purchasing of bank cheques online and online charity donations.
