Giving

Supporting the communities in which we do business

We provide our employees, customers and shareholders with opportunities to support causes that are important to them through our Community Giving program which operates in both Australia and India. ANZ and our staff also support the community through the ANZ Community Fund, operating in Australia and more recently established in Cambodia, and the ANZ Staff Foundation which is supported by both Australian and New Zealand) staff.

Community Giving - Customers

The ANZ Customer Donations Program provides ANZ Internet Banking customers with a convenient and simple way to donate to charity. Using ANZ's existing Pay Anyone functionality, we facilitate direct donations to a range of charities. In 2008, over $65,000 was donated to charity by our customers.

How to donate
  1. Login to Internet Banking and Pay Anyone.
  2. Access Charity Donations via the green banner at the bottom of the Balances and Transactions page (this banner will be visible to all Consumer and Small Business customers, excluding affiliates).
  3. Read about the program, then proceed to the Donations page.
  4. Following the normal Pay Anyone process, nominate an account, select a charity, and enter the amount you wish to donate. Please note that recurring payments are not available.
  5. After authorising the transaction, print the lodgement receipt for tax purposes.
  6. The donations will be sent directly to the charity as an immediate Pay Anyone transaction.

Shareholders

In 2006, ANZ extended Community Giving to our shareholders, with the Shareholder Dividend Charity Donation Program. The program gives ANZ shareholders the opportunity to donate some or all of their cash dividends to one of 30 not for profit partners.

Since then, $1,062,548 has been donated.

The Shareholder Dividend Charity Donation Program is open to all shareholders who are Australian-resident taxpayers and who receive a cash dividend in Australian dollars.

ANZ Community Fund

The ANZ Community Fund enables staff working in branches in Australia, and more recently in Cambodia, to provide support to unique, local causes. Through the Fund, local markets can offer in-kind support such as volunteering, access to business networks, in-branch promotions or expertise, in addition to financial assistance.

Here's one example: the ANZ Boronia local market in Victoria used the Community Fund to develop a local program called Kids First. It was designed by ANZ staff to help the children in local schools learn about good financial habits and physical fitness. Local CEO, Gary Conner, has been thrilled at the outcomes as the team brings it alive in the community.

"Our team is very excited by the potential of this project and the impact we have made already in our local area. So far, there have been 11,000 children participate in the physical or financial elements of the Kids First."

ANZ Staff Foundation

The ANZ Staff Foundation was established in Australia in 1988 to help meet the needs of Australian communities. It is jointly funded by ANZ staff in Australia and by ANZ. The Foundation has distributed $1.5 million to more than 150 charitable organisations throughout Australia since its inception.

The ANZ Staff Foundation funds small projects (usually up to $5,000) in the following areas:

The ANZ Staff Foundation accepts applications for grants twice a year: 15 January and 15 July. Access the Guidelines and/or an application (PDF 160kB).

A staff foundation also operates in New Zealand. It is a charitable trust through which staff in New Zealand support the organisations and projects that make a difference in the community. Since the Staff Foundation was founded in 2000 we have granted more than $800,000 to community organisations throughout New Zealand. NZ Staff can make regular donation through the payroll each fortnight. For every dollar staff members donate, the Bank matches it - dollar for dollar.

In Bangalore, Socially Aware ANZ or SAANZ is an employee driven initiative to support various community development projects in India. The SAANZ team is a network of volunteer champions that focus on smaller, lesser known charitable and development organisations for community giving. Projects supported by SAANZ are recommended by members who volunteer their time to be involved and funds are raised through payroll giving and donations.
