ANZ has joined the Australian Government and over 30 leading businesses, unions, disability employment services and industry representatives to sign a public commitment to help remove these barriers and improve employment opportunities.
ANZ’s Deputy CEO, Graham Hodges said: “We need to breakdown some of the stereotypes associated with employing people with disability.
“Providing real jobs and career opportunities is one of the most powerful ways to bring more people with disability into mainstream society. While these are people who contribute in many ways to Australia’s social and economic prosperity, they still encounter barriers to employment.
“Over 400 ANZ employees identify themselves as having a disability and we are on track to exceed our goal to employ an additional 35 people with a disability this year.
“In addition to real jobs, our commitment includes improving awareness and understanding of disabilities, and providing the right support not only for employees with a disability, but their managers and co-workers,” said Graham.
Working Together for Ability (PDF 49 kB) promotes the clear business benefits of a workplace that welcomes employees with disability. This includes the opportunity to tap into the unique skills, experiences and perspectives of people with disability while improving access to a sizeable customer and employee base.
Research shows this segment of the workforce is very reliable and contrary to widely held assumption, has comparably low rates of sick leave.
