Discontinuance of ANZ foreign currency cash services

From 1 February 2021, ANZ will no longer offer foreign currency cash services.

What does this change mean for you?

This means that you will no longer be able to buy or sell foreign cash at ANZ branches.

However, there is a range of alternative options available for customers who need to buy or sell foreign cash.

These include:

  • Using your ANZ Visa Debit Card to withdraw foreign cash at overseas ATMs
  • Specialist foreign currency exchange providers, either in your local area or at overseas departure points, such as airports.

This change only affects foreign cash. We’ll continue to offer our other international services including foreign currency accounts and telegraphic transfers.

Why are we making this change?

Border restrictions due to COVID-19 have seen demand for foreign exchange cash transactions fall significantly in recent months. As customers are well-served by other alternatives, including specialist providers and the ability to withdraw local currency from overseas ATMs, we have taken the carefully-considered decision to discontinue foreign exchange cash services in our branches.

However, you’ll still be able to deposit and withdraw foreign currencies digitally to and from your foreign currency accounts via electronic transfers between your ANZ accounts and international money transfers.
