Opening your ANZ Smart Choice Pension account takes about 15 minutes in five simple steps.

What will you need to open your account?

  • To be a permanent resident or citizen of Australia or New Zealand.
    What if I am not a permanent resident? To open an account you must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia or New Zealand or a temporary resident with a Subclass 405 (Investment Retirement) visa or a Subclass 410 (Retirement Visa). If you are not an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia or New Zealand or a temporary resident with a Subclass 405 (Investor Retirement) visa or a Subclass 410 (Retirement) visa a pension can only be opened under permanent incapacity or terminal medical condition.   • To satisfy at least one of the below eligibility criteria:
    • I am aged 55 or over and have retired from the workforce and do not intend to return to work for more than 10 hours each week
    • I am aged 60 to 64 (inclusive) and have ceased being employed in at least one gainful employment on or after reaching age 60
    • I am not working due to permanent incapacity or a terminal medical condition
    • I am commencing a pension with existing unrestricted non-preserved money

This is an investment solution that is appropriate for your age, which will automatically adjust your investment exposure (to become more conservative) as you move towards and into retirement. Additionally, an active asset allocation process may be utilised to increase or decrease your exposure to relevant asset classes within permitted ranges. This process is designed to optimise your investment performance by adjusting allocations to markets/asset classes which we believe will perform strongly or poorly in the future. The exposure to a broad range of asset classes is designed to diversify investment risk. In addition you can also hold a portion of your balance in ANZ Smart Choice – Cash.   • Your pension payments will only commence when all the amounts you have nominated are received or after 60 days (whichever is earlier).
  • The government legislates that you must withdraw a minimum amount from your account each year. To ensure that you meet this condition, at the end of each financial year, any shortfall amount will be deposited to your nominated ANZ bank account.
