Whether you’re paying a bill, fixing up a friend for lunch, or sending money to a relative overseas, it’s easy to pay online. Make payments quickly and securely with ANZ Internet Banking and the ANZ App.

Your payment options

Payments within Australia

You can send money from your account to any Australian bank, building society or credit uniondisclaimer using the recipient’s BSB and account number or PayID® (mobile number, email address, ABN/ACN or organisation ID).

Payments could be received in as little as 60 seconds via Osko®disclaimer. If your payment is not able to be processed via Osko®, the payment will generally be processed within five days.

BPAY®

Paying bills to a registered BPAY® biller is easy. Just look for the biller code and reference number on your bill, then follow the steps below.

Bill payments requested before 6.00pm (AEST) on a bank business day will be processed to your account on the same day. Payments requested after this time will be debited immediately but may be processed on the next bank business day.

Overseas payments

You can transfer money to an overseas account using ANZ Internet Banking.

Funds transferred overseas may take 2 - 4 business days before being available in the payee’s (beneficiary's) account, depending on when ANZ accepts your instructions and whether a third party correspondent bank is involved.

Fees and charges may apply from both ANZ and a third party correspondent bank.

PayID® and Osko® explained

PayID® can be a mobile number, email address, ABN/ACN or organisation ID. It’s unique to each customer and doesn’t replace a BSB and account number which stays exactly the same – it’s like a nickname for an account.

Osko® is a payment method used by ANZ and other participating banks, building societies and credit unions to send payments faster, anytime, between eligible accountsdisclaimer. To use Osko, you don't need to do anything differently, just send the payment as usual and ANZ will send the payment the fastest way possible.

Understand your SWIFTs, BICs and IBANs

What is a SWIFT/BIC?

  • SWIFT stands for Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication
  • BIC stands for Bank Identifier Code

Together, a SWIFT and BIC makes up the 8 - 11 character identification code of a bank or financial institution. In an international money transfer these codes help us identify the receiving bank or financial institution, so make sure the ones you use are up to date.

When you send a payment overseas, the SWIFT/BIC code is mandatory and identifies the beneficiary (receiving) bank or financial institution. Some countries will allow the option to enter a Branch number or a SWIFT/BIC code.

ANZ Australia’s SWIFT/BIC code is ANZBAU3M

How to get a SWIFT/BIC for your payment

You can contact the person or organisation you’d like to transfer to, contact their bank or refer to their bank’s website.

What is an IBAN?

  • IBAN stands for International Bank Account Number

When you transfer money overseas, some countries require you to use an IBAN.

An IBAN starts with a two letter country code and will contain between 15 and 34 letters and numbers. The length of an IBAN will differ depending on the country of the recipient. The IBAN should be presented as a continuous string of alphanumeric characters with no spaces (eg. GB29NWBK60161331926819).

ANZ does not have the authority to change an IBAN, so please make sure you have the right details before sending your payment.

Australia does not use IBANs to receive payments and instead use BSB and account numbers.

How to get an IBAN for your payment

You can contact the person or organisation you’d like to transfer to, contact their bank or refer to their bank’s website.

BPAY® bill payment

ANZ can investigate any BPAY® transaction on your account by lodging a dispute with our EFT Disputes Department. They will contact the merchant involved on your behalf to investigate the payment.

  • Disputes can take up to 21 days to be resolved
  • The EFT Disputes Department will advise you of the result in writing
  • To lodge your enquiry, you can enquire about a past BPAY® bill payment in ANZ Internet Banking or contact the ANZ Internet Banking Helpdesk on 13 33 50 (International callers: +61 3 9683 8833) 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • You can also send an enquiry by tapping Message Us in Support in the ANZ App

Whenever you submit a BPAY® bill payment you receive a lodgement number. This confirms your payment was successfully submitted. You will also receive a receipt number when your payment is actually processed.

  • You can check the status of your BPAY® bill payments and the receipt number via the View past payments / transfers in the Payments menu in ANZ Internet Banking
  • For unsuccessful payments, the status will show as failed.
  • You can also view the details of the payment to see the reason for failed payments.

Bill payments from your ANZ Credit Card can be processed as either a purchase or cash advance. This is dependent upon how the biller is set up with the BPAY® billing service. The biller has the option of accepting a credit card as a method of payment.

  • If the biller chooses to accept, the bill payment is processed as a purchase
  • If the biller does not accept credit card payments, ANZ may allow you to make the payment from your ANZ Credit Card (if sufficient funds are available)
  • If you choose to proceed with the credit card payment, it will be processed as a cash advance, a fee may be charged and interest will accrue accordingly.

You can add a BPAY® biller to your ANZ Internet Banking. All you need is the biller code and reference number from the bill and the description of the bill.

There is no charge for paying bills online. However, if you use all of your monthly free withdrawals for your accounts, normal excess transaction fees and government charges will apply.

Payments initiated via BPAY® from an ANZ Credit Card may be considered as a cash advance, hence may incur an interest.

If you have a lot of billers in your BPAY Biller list, and you are finding it difficult to locate your biller when making a BPAY payment, you can try one or both of the below methods:

  • Change the view toggle. You can choose to view your payees either in a multi-column ‘Tile’ view, or a more traditional single column ‘List’ view
  • Use the filter textbox. You can type characters into the filter textbox (look for the magnifying glass) to reduce the number of billers displayed. Only the billers matching what you’ve typed will be shown.

Overseas payments

The Total amount payable is calculated by adding the transfer amount to the ANZ transfer fee. This is the total amount you will pay for your International Money Transfer.

The correspondent bank fee will be deducted from the transfer amount.

The Estimated beneficiary amount is an estimate of the amount the person or institution you’re transferring to (the beneficiary) will receive. This is calculated by subtracting the Estimated correspondent bank fee from the transfer amount.

A correspondent bank fee is a fee that is charged by overseas banks to process an International Money Transfer. If applicable, the correspondent bank fee is deducted from the transfer amount.

When you make an International Money Transfer, we will provide you with an estimate of the correspondent bank fee.

Payer details are now automatically included when you choose an account, so we’ve removed these details from the page.

The address details for the account you’re transferring from need to be correct to comply with the Australian Transaction Reports Act 1988, and the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (AML/CTF Act).

In the case of accounts with more than one address, the first address listed will be used.

For business accounts, the ‘payer’ will be the customer whose bank account is being used for the transfer, not the person making the IMT on behalf of the account holder.

ANZ Internet Banking and ANZ Internet Banking for Business only allow international money transfers to specific countries. Give us a call or visit a branch if you want to make an International Money Transfer to a country not shown in the destination country drop-down list.

When you’re transferring to some countries you’ll need extra information. The fields required to be filled-in will differ depending on the country you’ve chosen.

  • Vietnam requires the passport or citizen card number of the recipient
  • All countries require the beneficiary/recipient address
  • For payments to South Africa and Bangladesh, the recipient needs to contact their bank to claim funds. If they don’t do that, the funds won’t be credited to their account.
  • For payments to China, the payee should not be an individual where the purpose of the payment relates to trade.
  • For the following countries, IBAN is mandatory; Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, French Polynesia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Kuwait, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Mauritius, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, New Caledonia, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Saudi Arabia

By selecting 'Get rate', you are calculating the exchange rate for your International Money Transfer and an estimate of the total fees for the transaction.

You’ll also generate estimates of the correspondent bank fee and the amount the beneficiary will receive.

When you select 'Get rate', you’ll be given an exchange rate for your International Money Transfer which will be valid for 10 minutes. In the 'Enter your transfer details' section, there is a timer which shows when the exchange rate will expire. If the exchange rate expires you will need to select ‘Get rate’ to obtain a new exchange rate.

Whenever you confirm a payment/transfer you’ll see a lodgement number and receipt number. The receipt number confirms that the payment has been submitted successfully.

You can check the status and the receipt number via the 'View past payment/Transfers' function. For unsuccessful payments, the status will show as Failed. You can also check the details of the payment to find the reasons the payment failed.

Find out more about past payments and transfers.

Transfers are processed overnight on bank business days.

The time it takes for the international payee’s account to be credited will vary depending on the policy and the systems of the bank the account is held with.

Note: For ANZ Banking for Business, regardless of the payment authorisation period specified by ANZ Internet Banking for Business users at registration, any overseas transfers must be authorised on the same day the transfer is lodged. Due to fluctuating rates, if transfers aren’t authorised on the same day, they will expire.

The total is the sum of the Transfer Amount and Transfer fee. When foreign currency is used, the Amount is the Australian dollar equivalent of the Transfer amount.

Note: Please be advised that overseas banks may charge fees for processing this transfer, which may be deducted from the amount you’re sending.

You can transfer an amount equal to or less than the balance of your daily Pay Anyone limit, including the relevant processing fees.

Note: For ANZ Internet Banking for Business customers, the maximum amount that can be transferred overseas is $150,000 (AUD) even if the daily limit amount assigned to your profile is higher than this.

When you are transferring money overseas it is your responsibility to ensure the details you provide are correct.

We don’t check payment details and if those details are wrong, it may result in an unsuccessful transfer or the funds may go into the wrong account.

You can check the details of the payment that you have made online:

Alternatively, you can give the ANZ International Support Centre a call directly on 1800 681 683 (International callers: +61 3 9683 8833) 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Currently, this payment feature currently isn’t available in the ANZ App. To perform an international money transfer, please follow the above steps using ANZ Internet Banking.

Check all information you enter is correct including BSB and account number or PayID. ANZ doesn’t check the details you enter including that the BSB and account number or PayID belong to the account name. If you enter the wrong BSB, account number or PayID the payment may be paid to the wrong account and it may not be possible to recover your money from this account.

You cannot delete or cancel an immediate payment or a payment to be processed today.

Future-dated payments require cleared funds in your account at 11.59pm Melbourne time on the day before the scheduled payment date or your payment will be unsuccessful.

You cannot amend a recurring payment. You must delete the existing recurring payment series by selecting the recurring payment series from the Manage future payments / transfers function and then set up a new recurring payment series.

Payments from your ANZ Credit Card are treated as a cash advance, which may involve a fee (interest is applicable).
