From 5 August 2017 ANZ will be making changes to its ANZ Frequent Flyer cards range. From this date, you can earn the following Qantas Points1 when you make eligible purchases;
From 5 August 2017 there will be no limit to the number of Qantas Points you can earn on eligible purchases made using your ANZ Frequent Flyer Visa card.
ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum (previously ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold)
From 5 August 2017 there will be no limit to the number of Qantas Points that you can earn on eligible purchases made using your ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum Visa card.
Remember, there is no limit to the number of Qantas Points you can earn on eligible purchases made using your ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Visa card.
Your American Express® card will no longer be offered
From 5 August 2017, you will no longer be able to use your ANZ American Express card. Until then, you can continue to use your ANZ American Express card with no change to the number of Qantas Points you will earn on eligible purchases.
What will happen on 5 August 2017?
On 5 August 2017, ANZ will begin declining American Express transactions so you’ll no longer be able to use your ANZ American Express card and will need to have your Visa card available from this day. The revised Visa earn rates will also apply from 5 August 2017.
If your Annual Fee and/or Rewards Program Service Fee has changed, the new fee will be charged the next time these fees are due on your account after 5 August 2017. Some customers may also have been notified of interest rate changes scheduled to take effect from 5 August 2017.
Why is ANZ making this change?
The Reserve Bank of Australia is making changes to payment system regulations which affect American Express Companion Cards from 1 July 2017. These changes have an impact on the funding of rewards that ANZ currently offers for American Express Companion Cardholders. ANZ has decided to make this change in response to these impacts.
Are these changes retrospective?
The changes are not retrospective. They will have no impact on the Qantas Points already earned or those you earn up to 5 August 2017.
What will happen to funds that need to be charged back to my account after 5 August 2017 in response to a dispute using my American Express card prior to 5 August 2017?
Any funds that need to be charged back to your account in response to a dispute will be processed normally. The removal of the American Express card from your account will have no impact.
What will happen to a future booking if the booking was made on my ANZ American Express card prior to 5 August 2017?
Any transaction that needs to be completed from 5 August 2017 will have to be made using your existing ANZ Visa card. Your details should be updated if a future booking has been made with any merchant. Any transaction using the ANZ American Express card from this date will be declined.
Will premium insurances continue to apply to my account?
Yes. All insurances that currently apply to your account will continue to apply.
How can I maximise my Qantas Points before 5 August 2017?
If you don’t already have an ANZ American Express card and you want to maximise the number of points you earn before 5 August 2017, you can add an ANZ American Express card to your account today by calling us on 1800 824 433 (+61 3 8699 6949 from overseas) between 7am and 10pm AEST Monday to Friday.
Can I keep my ANZ American Express card open after the 5 August 2017?
As per recent communications, from 5 August 2017, you will no longer be able to use your ANZ American Express card. If you don’t already have an American Express card and you want to maximise the number of points you earn, you can add an ANZ American Express card to your account today by calling us on 1800 824 433 (+61 3 8699 6949 from overseas) between 7am and 10pm AEST Monday to Friday. Until 5 August 2017, you can continue to use your card with no change to the number of Qantas Points you will earn on eligible purchases.
Will purchases made by additional cardholders be included?
The spend bands used to decide which earn rate applies to a purchase take into account all eligible purchases on your account during the statement period, including purchases made by additional cardholders.
What impact does this have on Bonus Points?
You’ll continue to earn Bonus Points on selected Qantas products and services2.
Where do I find the current earn rates applicable to my account?
If you receive a credit card statement then your earn rates and the number of points you’ve earnt are displayed in the Qantas Points summary section towards the back of your statement. You can view your credit card statement by logging on to Internet Banking at anz.com.au. If you don’t receive statements you can call us on 1800 824 433 (+61 3 8699 6949 from overseas) between 7am and 10pm AEST Monday to Friday.
