Some of our important environment initiatives include:

• ANZ is a signatory to the United Nations Environment Programme’s Finance Initiatives (UNEP-FI). As a signatory, ANZ endeavours to ensure our policies and business actions promote sustainable development.
• We are reviewing our lending policies to ensure they take account of current social and environmental issues.
• We are reducing our direct environmental impacts, such as natural resource consumption, waste disposal and greenhouse gas emissions, by applying our environmental management system.
• We are at the forefront of the developing market for investment in renewable energy. Investments in this sector can provide attractive returns as well as provide employment, strengthen rural power supplies, and help to reduce the risks of global warming.
• Through our asset finance subsidiary, Esanda, we are partnering with Pratt Water to fund water-saving technologies and efficiency initiatives for Australian farmers.
