Over 60 not-for-profit organisations will share in $300,000 of grants to fund community capacity-building projects across regional Australia in 2009 under the Seeds of Renewal program.
Among the projects to be funded in 2009 is a farm sustainability program in the Wanarn community in Northern Territory and the purchase of a thermal imaging camera to enable the rural fire brigade in Lowan, Victoria to scan large haystacks for fire threat.
ANZ Managing Director Retail Distribution, Louis Hawke said: “We are committed to supporting local communities and appreciate the valuable role community groups play in supporting regional and rural business in Australia.
“We trust the grants will provide recipients with the boost they need to kick-start their projects.”
Funded by ANZ and independently administered by the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR), Seeds of Renewal supports projects to build the economic and social strength of towns with populations of less than 15,000.
It has issued more than $2.3 million to 530 small community projects since it was launched in 2003.
