Corporate and Commercial Banking delivers solutions for customers through our Corporate, Business Banking, Regional Business Banking, Emerging Corporate, and Small Business Banking segments. Whether working in the frontline or in a head office enablement role, our aim is to provide fast, accurate and knowledgeable services to our customers.

What to expect in your 8-week Corporate and Commercial Internship:

Interns will spend time in one of the following areas of Corporate and Commercial during their internship:

The work activities interns undertake will support the business to deliver results. You will have opportunities to work autonomously but also within and across teams and contribute to the delivery of projects to support Small Business, Commercial and/or Corporate Banking staff.  There are also networking events to attend during your internship that will put you in touch with the right people to help build your knowledge of ANZ’s business and culture. 

Who makes a good Corporate and Commercial Intern at ANZ?

As a Corporate and Commercial intern you will need to have had some experience in a customer facing role, for example, in a part time capacity during your university studies. Ideally you will also have a base level of understanding when it comes to the principles behind how a business operates from a banking perspective, this might have come from your university studies and/or work.

Students who are currently studying towards a Commerce and/or Business or STEM (Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) degree may be suitably skilled for our Commercial area.

Corporate and Commercial Banking - Regional Agribusiness

The Regional Agribusiness Banking Internship at ANZ is all about developing a pipeline of talent to support our commercial and agribusiness customers across regional Australia. This internship aims to give participants the opportunity to develop an understanding of banking needs within the regional communities they live and work within.

Where will you be located?

What to expect in your 8-week Regional Internship:

Interns will spend the majority of time with one of our Regional Business Bankers, someone who’s in the know when it comes to this customer set and can give you a good overview of this area of ANZ. 

It’s likely you’ll spend time both in and out of the office environment learning banking systems and processes coupled with some client or site visits. 

The work activities interns undertake will support the business to get results. You will have opportunities to work autonomously but also within and across teams and contribute to the delivery of projects to support Commercial and/or Corporate banking staff. There are also networking events to attend during your internship that will put you in touch with the right people to help build your knowledge of ANZ’s business and culture. 

Who makes a good Regional Intern at ANZ?

ANZ Regional interns will have a passion for wanting to find out more about banking in regional Australia and agribusiness. Successful people within our team take an end-to-end approach to their work and hold a genuine interest in assisting customers involved in agriculture, land and environment based businesses. If you’re after a ‘taste’ of this side of ANZ’s business and studying Agriculture, preferably with some finance/commerce subjects, then it’s perfect for you!

Finance

Program Overview
Location:
Melbourne

The Finance Summer Intern Program offers an understanding of ANZ's operations through our Global Finance function. The role of the function is to drive ANZ's financial performance by shaping strategy, allocating resources and ensuring decisions are based on facts. This area touches every division of ANZ's business whilst supporting and influencing so much of what we do each day.

What to expect in your 8-week Finance Internship:

Finance Interns may spend time in one of the following four core disciplines of Finance during their internship:

Financial Control

Our Financial Control team provides stewardship and control of the numbers. They deliver regulatory and statutory reporting, manage regulatory relationships and provide technical accounting advice. This team is responsible for the preparation of monthly consolidated P&L and balance sheets, as well as management of financial governance and assurance.

Business Partners

Our Finance Business Partners (BPs) provide strategic insight and proactive financial analysis and advice to the businesses they support. They have a detailed understanding of business performance and provide analysis and business commentary. They are also involved in developing the business unit or country specific strategic and operating plan and forecasting.

Financial Planning and Analysis

Our Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team delivers business driver based planning and forecasting, as well as insightful reporting. The team provides an in-depth analysis and drivers of our business – they drive accountability and productivity through analysis and insight. Our FP&A team are also responsible for managing our existing investment slate and evaluating new capital.

Project Accounting

The Project Accounting function is responsible for the preparation of project financials for our projects governance body and for Executive Committee approved projects.

Based on the input and direction provided by our key project and BAU Finance stakeholders, the team delivers project finance information including monthly reporting, forecasting and planning & analysis. This is achieved by following established processes and procedures to ensure that the service provided is consistent and scalable.

Who makes a good Finance Intern at ANZ?

Successful ANZ Finance Interns are passionate about working for an area of the bank that is influential in finding financial solutions for internal and external customers.

The best fit for the Finance Internship are people with excellent quantitative analysis skills as well as strong capability in understanding and interpreting financial information. An understanding of financial business concepts and practice are highly regarded, but it's not all about numbers!

We also look for Interns with the ability to translate and communicate their work and solutions to non-technical audiences as well as key stakeholders within the bank.

Institutional provides world class solutions for our institutional clients across Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Europe and America, including Papua New Guinea and the Middle East. Program Overview

Institutional is one of the most dynamic and diverse areas of the bank, providing global financial services to government, corporate and institutional clients. As an Institutional intern you will have exposure to some of the best in the business who are focused on providing solutions for clients with complex financial needs, based on a deep understanding of our clients’ businesses and industries.

Institutional is organised around the client, with our product aligned to our relationship teams to deliver integrated solutions across our key geographies. Close interaction between the teams both within and across geographies enables us to provide a seamless offering to clients, irrespective of where they do business with us. We deliver solutions across Australia, New Zealand, Asia Pacific, Europe and America.

Interns may be aligned to one of the following business segments in Institutional during their internship:

Institutional Australia

Institutional Australia manages relationships with our Institutional customers in Australia and PNG. The team is responsible for the end-to-end customer experience in ANZ’s largest market, as well as PNG with its close ties to Australia. The team is focused on leveraging our network advantage and growing connectivity with our International and New Zealand geographies. Working collaboratively across our extensive geographic network is critical to the team’s success and serving our Australian and PNG customers as their businesses continue to develop across borders.

Credit & Capital Management

Credit and Capital Management is responsible for helping Institutional to balance its customer, risk and capital management objectives. This is primarily done by:

  • Working closely with Risk to review and define the risk appetite statements for Institutional and its constituent parts (clients, products and geography) so that Institutional's risk appetite is aligned to its commercial ambitions, both at a strategic level and at a client level;
  • Running our deal and credit approval and ongoing credit management processes (relationship, products and geographies) using the Research & Analysis teams globally;
  • Simplifying our credit processes to improve speed and efficiency; and
  • Ensuring that the capital invested in the business is optimally managed to generate the best return possible for the Division

ANZ Research

ANZ Research provides extensive coverage and analysis of economics, financial markets and commodities. ANZ’s strength in the Asian region is mirrored in the geographical coverage of our economics and research staff based in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, London, New York and Bengaluru.

Our FX & Rates research teams provide product-specific strategy organised on a global basis and focus primarily on our investor & institutional customer base.

Loans & Specialised Finance

Loans & Specialised Finance is responsible for the provision of lending solutions to ANZ’s Institutional and Commercial customer base. The team consists of six lines of business: Project & Export Finance, Structured Asset Finance, Leveraged & Acquisition Finance, Loan Syndications, Corporate Advisory and Loan Product & Transformation.

Loans & Specialised Finance is recognised as a centre of excellence for its skills in specialist credit analysis, advisory services, structuring, execution and ongoing monitoring of customer transactions.

Markets

Markets delivers innovative product solutions across foreign exchange, capital markets, fixed income, commodities, equities, as well as specialist research and risk management expertise. Our team works in dealing rooms located in the major financial hubs of London, New York, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore, Wellington, Auckland, Sydney and Melbourne, as well as Beijing, Taipei, Jakarta, Manila, Hanoi and Seoul, with access to a network of 34 markets.

Transaction Banking

Transaction Banking provides our clients with payments, cash management, trade finance and supply chain finance solutions. The team is responsible for end-to-end transaction banking services in our home markets of Australia and New Zealand and across our Asia-Pacific footprint. Transaction Banking is focused on providing specialist sales, product management and service expertise to assist clients with their day to day working capital, cash flow and global trade requirements. TB also provides sophisticated tools to help our clients control and manage their global multi-currency cash flows.

The TB business develops products and channel solutions from design through to commercialisation and manages their ongoing end-to-end performance throughout the product life cycle. Our focus is designing, developing and implementing solutions that meet the client's needs. The client is at the centre of everything we do.

The work activities interns undertake will support the business to achieve results. You will have opportunities to gain a good insight into the business as well as building strong relationships.

Retail Distribution, Products and Marketing

Program Overview

Australia is ANZ’s largest market, with more than 16,000 employees serving approximately six million retail and commercial customers through a network of around 800 branches, 115 business centres, 2,700 ATMs and leading online and mobile banking applications.

The Retail and Products & Marketing stream is composed of various business units under the Retail Distribution and Products & Marketing businesses of Australia Division. Candidates applying for this stream will be placed in either area of these businesses.

Retail Distribution

The Retail Distribution business is an exciting and broad part of Australia Division, which also includes Corporate and Commercial Banking and Products and Marketing.

Retail Distribution is the largest business within Australia Division, with around 8,800 people supporting close to five million customers around Australia.

ANZ’s retail distribution channels include our extensive branch network, our contact centre, and specialist sales channels - which comprise our Mobile Lenders, Mortgages Direct, Brokers, ATMs, Foreign Exchange and International payments.

What to expect in your 8-week Internship:

As an intern, you may gain exposure to either a customer-facing or distribution support area. Specific areas that you may experience during your internship may include, but are not limited to:

  • Customer-facing areas such as the Branch Network, Contact Centre and Specialist Channels
  • Enablement areas such as Australia Division Services

Plan and Deliver Technology

The Plan and Deliver Technology teams engage with the business to understand objectives, and define, prioritise, plan and co-ordinate technology solutions which are in line with business objectives and deliver a better employee and customer experience. There are a number of Plan and Deliver teams, including divisionally aligned teams (Australia, Corporate Centre, Institutional and Wealth) and enterprise teams (Data, Digital and Payments & Operations).

Technology Service Management

Technology Service Management plays a critical role in keeping ANZ’s IT systems operating, globally. Technology Service Management develops and maintains the technology infrastructure solutions that support our branches, ATMs and internet banking, enabling us to offer simple and convenient access for our customers.  This team also provides consistent, automated and predictable ways to integrate new technology services into our existing technology services portfolio to ensure a seamless customer experience.

Who makes a good Technology Intern at ANZ?

As a Technology Intern at ANZ, it's a given that you'll have strong technical ability.  In addition, you will possess critical thinking skills, and will enjoy working with others as a team player who can also execute tasks autonomously.

Understanding how technology supports and shapes the way we do business, for ourselves internally and for our customers, is something you will learn early in your internship.  You may have had some exposure to this already, either through part-time work or on projects at university, which will be beneficial. You are an individual who appreciates the significance of information technology in business and is passionate about providing service delivery to the highest standards.
