A) Application Process

1. How do I apply?

Application process is now open and will close on 12 August 2011. Please refer to “Apply” section for more details.

2. What are you looking for from the candidates?

In addition to the selection criteria, we are looking for people who have the following traits

  • Demonstrates customer focus
  • Results-orientated

  • Demonstrates problem solving skills
3. I am in my last semester of study.  Am I still eligible for this program?

If you meet all our selection criteria, you are welcome to submit your application for consideration.

4. I have not submitted an application with the university to participate in an overseas exchange program in 2012. Can I still apply?

As long as you meet our selection criteria and plan to participate in an overseas exchange program in 2012 (either first or second semester) to study in one of the universities in New Zealand, which has been accredited by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority, you are welcome to submit your application for consideration.

However, scholarships will only be offered to candidates who have been accepted into an overseas exchange program approved by your university.

5. I am planning to study in New Zealand in 2013. Can I still apply?

You can revisit these pages in mid-2012 for details on the 2013 intake.

6. What areas of study will the scholarship cover?

To be eligible for the scholarship, subjects undertaken in the university in New Zealand University must be transferable to the corresponding modules within the degree that is being completed in Singapore.

7. Do you accept late applications?

All applications must be received by 12 August 2011. Late applications will not be considered.

8. What happens after I have submitted my application online?

9. When will I know about the outcome of my application?

We will finalise our candidate selection by end October 2011.

B) About the program

10. What is the purpose of this program?

The purpose of this program is to provide a scholarship and internship opportunity to develop students’ international leadership skills, and to enhance business, cultural and educational connectivity between New Zealand and Singapore.

11. How many students would be awarded the scholarship each year?

Up to two students will be selected from each participating country (ANZ Singapore and ANZ New Zealand). A maximum of four students per annum will be awarded the scholarship each year.

12. What does the scholarship offer?

Each successful applicants will be awarded NZD15,000 to contribute towards his/her studies in New Zealand.  This will be followed by a three month paid internship with ANZ.

13. What about the living and accommodation allowances, and the air ticket to New Zealand? Will ANZ cover these expenses?

Each scholarship award will be capped at NZD15,000.  The aim is not to cover all of the students’ overseas expenses, but rather to provide significant support that will help students achieve their aspirations, and encourage ongoing links between Singapore and New Zealand universities and business environments.

Students are expected to organise their own arrangements to participate in the scholarship, including travel and living arrangements, study and work permits.

14. Is there an internship agreement?

Yes, the internship agreement will outline the terms and conditions of your internship with ANZ, subject to the availability of suitable positions.  It will also include a statement on the first right for ANZ to employ the student upon graduation, subject to the availability of suitable positions.

ANZ reserves the right to request for the full amount of the scholarship to be returned to ANZ, if the student defaults on the scholarship agreement.

15. What happens if I do not complete my university program?

ANZ reserves the right to request for the full amount of the scholarship to be returned to ANZ if you do not complete the university program for which the money was intended.

16. What if I cannot get my study permit in New Zealand?

If for some reason, you are not able to attain a study permit in New Zealand, then you will not be eligible for the scholarship.  ANZ reserves the right to request for any funds that have been paid to date to be returned to ANZ.

C) Internship program

17. Is an internship placement guaranteed?

ANZ will only guarantee an internship placement if the student has fulfilled all of his/her responsibilities to ANZ up to the date of placement for the internship, including by not limited to the following

  • The semester funded by the scholarship has been completed
  • The student has obtained the appropriate work permit
  • All other in-country requirements have been met
18. Do I have to complete my internship in New Zealand?

ANZ expects students to complete their internship in New Zealand upon completion of their scholarship semester.

19. What if I cannot complete my internship in New Zealand?

If you cannot complete the internship in New Zealand due to work permit or other issues, your internship may take place at the ANZ Singapore office instead.

20. Will I be paid during my internship?

You will be paid in line with the prevailing market conditions in the country (i.e. New Zealand) in which the internship is offered.

21. What kind of roles will be offered for internship?

Interns will be offered roles based on capability, suitability and availability.  Interns will be exposed to the banking and finance industry, with a focus on institutional banking in line with the scholarship’s aim of developing future leaders to build on business and trade flows between Singapore and New Zealand.

22. I am interested to apply for an internship opportunity with ANZ. Do I submit my application at this site for consideration?

This is a scholarship program.  If you are looking for an internship opportunity during your school holidays, kindly register your interest and resume at the ANZ Careers site. You will be contacted by the resource manager if your profile matches our business needs.

D) Upon Graduation

23. Will ANZ offer a permanent role upon graduation?

To meet the objectives of the scholarship, ANZ plans to offer participating students a role appropriate to their study, experience and goals, subject to the availability of suitable positions.

The descriptions, terms and conditions set out above are subject to change and ANZ reserves the right in its sole and absolute discretion, from time to time, to amend or vary any of (or any part of) such descriptions, terms and/or conditions without notice. The terms and conditions of any scholarship awarded shall be as set out in the agreement to be entered into between a successful applicant and ANZ.
