It’s often said that the hardest part of any journey is the first step. To help you on your way to achieve your life goals, all that remains are five simple steps for you and your ANZ Financial Planner to take together.

Step 1 - Understanding your situation

The first appointment is an opportunity to get to know each other, and for the ANZ Financial Planner to learn as much about you as possible. You will be asked about your financial situation, your family, and your goals.

Fees will be outlined as well as the various payment choices available to you, associated with implementing your plan.

Step 2 - Developing your plan

Your financial plan is the detailed strategy and advice that your ANZ Financial Planner will develop for you.

They will tailor your plan to your individual circumstances and it may cover some or all of the following information:

  • what you have asked for – sometimes called the ‘requested scope of advice’
  • your current situation
  • your goals and objectives
  • your investor type, based on the profile you and your ANZ Financial Planner feel is appropriate to you
  • the investment and insurance recommendations
  • relevant government legislation and regulations
  • relevant economic, tax and social security issues
  • costs for the advice and services
Step 3 - Presenting the recommendations

Ideally, you should meet face to face with your ANZ Financial Planner for the presentation of your plan. Set aside at least a couple of hours so there is sufficient time for you and your ANZ Financial Planner to walk you through the advice, and for you to ask questions along the way.

This should be an exciting step for you as the path to help achieve your goals is now laid out before you.

Step 4 - Implementing your plan

Once you feel comfortable with the advice and the information contained in your financial plan, it’s time to get going. Your ANZ Financial Planner, under your instruction, will implement the advice, including product recommendations on your behalf.

Step 5 - Reviewing your progress

Depending on your needs and the complexity of your plan, your ANZ Financial Planner will discuss and agree with you how often you need to meet and review it. As an absolute minimum, you should aim to meet at least once a year - or sooner if something major changes in your life.

This is your opportunity to review your progress and confirm that you are still on track to achieve your goals.

Your ANZ Financial Planner may also advise some adjustments to your plan or your investments, and will explain fully why any change is necessary.

This is also a great chance to review what is happening in your life. Remember, no financial plan is etched in stone. So if your circumstances change or your goals shift, make sure you share this with your ANZ Financial Planner. They’re here to support you throughout your journey – even if you decide to change the destination.

Your future is waiting

It’s exciting starting any journey – and this is one of the most important you will make in your lifetime. Financial planning is about managing the ‘now’ while you plan for the future.
