ANZ Contactless makes coins a thing of the past

ANZ Visa payWave and MasterCard PayPass are new contactless payment features being rolled out across the ANZ cards range, allowing you to pay for purchases under $100 without swiping, signing, or entering a PIN at any participating merchants. 

Convenience          

There’s no need to swipe or dip your card in the terminal anymore. Simply hold your card within a couple of centimetres of the contactless terminal until the lights are illuminated and you’re done!

You won’t be held up while signing or entering a PIN anymore – which makes it quicker to pay for purchases less than $100.

Unlike some other payment methods, you have full control of the transaction, because your card never leaves your hands. You can use your ANZ Contactless card at any Visa payWave or MasterCard PayPass merchant terminal – simply follow the steps below.

Step 1

Let the merchant know you’d like to use your ANZ Visa payWave or MasterCard PayPass card.

Step 2

Once they’ve entered the amount to pay, follow the on-screen prompts and hold your card within a couple of centimetres of the contactless terminal.

Step 3

Wait until you see the lights illuminate. Then simply collect your receipt – if you’d like one – and you’re done.

What is ANZ Contactless?

ANZ Contactless refers to Visa payWave and MasterCard® PayPassTM which are new, contactless payment methods that securely transmit purchase information via a tiny antenna embedded in your card. 

What are the benefits of ANZ Contactless?

It'll save you time - because you don't have to enter a PIN or sign when you make a purchase of less than $100 at a contactless terminal. And you won't have to worry about carrying cash and coins around. Plus, you'll still be able to swipe or dip your card whenever you need to.

How do I know if a retailer accepts ANZ Contactless?

Any retailer who displays the Contactless symbol Contactless Acceptance Mark and Visa or MasterCard logo can accept contactless payments. Of course, you'll still be able to swipe or dip your card at millions of locations worldwide, wherever Visa and MasterCard are accepted.

How close does my card need to be to the reader?

You should hold your ANZ Contactless-enabled card within a couple of centimetres of the card reader.

Is there a limit on the value of goods I can purchase with my ANZ Visa payWave or ANZ MasterCard in Australia?

You can use your ANZ Contactless-enabled card for any amount up to $100. For purchases over $100 you will need to sign or enter a PIN.

Are there any ANZ fees for using ANZ Visa payWave or ANZ MasterCard PayPassTM?

While standard transaction fees will apply, you won't be charged any extra for using the ANZ Contactless feature to pay for your transactions.

Will I receive a receipt for my transactions?

Yes, unless you advise the retailer that you don’t want one.

Is there any chance that payments may be taken twice from my account?

No. Visa payWave and MasterCard PayPassTM terminals are only able to make one transaction at a time. As a safeguard, each transaction must be complete or void before another can take place.

How do I know when a payment has been made?

You’ll see the lights illuminate and a display message confirming that your transaction has been successful.

Could I unknowingly make a purchase as I walk past the reader?

No. The retailer must have firstly entered the amount for you to approve, and then your card has to be held within a couple of centimetres of the terminal for longer than half a second.

How do I know that my transaction is secure?

ANZ Contactless transactions use the latest encryption technology, and are processed through the same, reliable payment network as chip card transactions - making them just as secure.

Can I use my card at retailers that accept Visa and MasterCard but don’t have Visa payWave or MasterCard PayPassTM terminals?

Yes. Simply swipe or insert your card and go through the traditional payment process. 

Do I need to select credit, savings, or cheque when I pay using ANZ Contactless?

No. When using the Contactless feature on your ANZ credit card, the transaction is automatically charged to your credit card account. If you are using an ANZ Access Visa Debit card, the transaction will come from your linked everyday bank account that you would otherwise access by pressing 'Savings’ or 'eftpos SAV' and 'Credit' or 'Visa Debit'.

Can I swipe or insert my ANZ Contactless enabled card for transactions under $100?

Yes. If you'd prefer not to use Visa payWave or MasterCard PayPassTM, you can use your ANZ card in the traditional way.

How do I know if my ANZ card has ANZ Visa payWave or ANZ MasterCard PayPassTM?

If your ANZ credit or debit card has the Visa payWave logo Visa payWave Logo on it then it has Visa payWave.

If your ANZ credit card has the MasterCard PayPassTM logo MasterCard PayPass Logo on it then it has MasterCard PayPassTM.

How can I get ANZ Contactless on my ANZ credit card?

If you are an existing account holder of any of the following accounts you should be eligible to have Visa payWave enabled on your ANZ Visa credit card

  • ANZ First
  • ANZ Rewards
  • ANZ Frequent Flyer
  • ANZ Platinum
  • ANZ Rewards Platinum
  • ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum

If you are an existing account holder of ANZ Low Rate or ANZ Low Rate Platinum, you should be eligible to have MasterCard PayPassTM enabled on your card.
