ANZ opened its first representative office in Tokyo in 1969. Following acquisition of a full banking licence in 1984, the Tokyo office was upgraded to a branch. In 1990, ANZ became the first Australian bank to open a branch in Osaka. In 2010, ANZ opened Nagoya sub branch, as the first Australian bank to provide services in Nagoya.
