How do I transfer funds overseas?

You can transfer funds overseas via the "International Services" section under the "Pay and Transfer" menu.

What types of functions can I access via the international services section?

You can use ANZ Internet Banking for the following international functions:

  • Transfer funds overseas: transfer funds to overseas accounts in any of the available currencies.
  • Purchase an international draft: purchase a draft (foreign currency cheque) by nominating the payee for the draft and the currency.
  • Order foreign currency cash and/or travellers cheques: choose from the available currencies.
  • View current foreign exchange rates:rates are updated daily.
  • International payee list: manage your international payees.
  • Manage your access to international services: change your daily limit or remove your access.

Your daily Pay Anyone limit will apply for both Pay Anyone and international transactions.

Does my daily limit apply to all international transfers?

Yes. Your daily Pay Anyone limit will apply for both Pay Anyone and international transactions jointly. There are different limits available to you depending on the type of accounts you have.

  • Customers with personal accounts may request for $1,000, $5,000 or $10,000. The request for $1,000 will be activated immediately and you can start making payment on the same day.
  • Customers with business accounts may request for $5,000, $10,000, $15,000 or $25,000 as their daily Pay Anyone limit.
  • ANZ Internet Banking for Business customers may request for a daily Pay Anyone limit of up to $500,000.
How much does it cost to make international payments?

The cost for international payments will vary depending on the type of payment you are requesting as follows:

Do I get any discounts on these fees?

Discounts are not available through ANZ Internet Banking.

  • If you are entitled to a travel fund fee concession please contact your local ANZ branch to place your order.
How long do international transfers take?

Depending on the type of transfers you have requested, international transfers may take up to four bank business days to be processed.

  • International money transfers (transfer funds overseas): are processed as immediate payments and your account is debited immediately. It may however, take 24-48 business hours to be processed depending on when the transfer was requested. Transfers submitted before 6.00pm (AEST) on a bank business day will be processed on the same day but if submitted after 6.00pm (AEST) or on weekends or public holidays, it will be processed on the next bank business day. The time that it takes for the beneficiary's account to be credited will depend on the policy and systems of the beneficiary's bank. You will be notified via SecureMail once your request is processed by the ANZ International Services team.
  • International drafts: it may take 24-48 business hours to be processed depending on when the transfer was requested. For payments submitted before 6.00pm (AEST) on a bank business day, payments are processed immediately. If submitted after 6.00pm (AEST) or on weekends or public holidays, it will be processed on the next bank business day. Once the order is processed, you should receive the draft within three to five bank business days in your mailing address.
  • Travellers cheque and/or foreign cash: will take at least 4 bank business days to be processed. You may specify a different day but it needs to be at least four bank business days in advance. These need to be collected from your nominated ANZ branch.
Can I future date international payments?

No. International payments cannot be future dated nor can it be set up as a recurring transfer. All international payments are processed as immediate payments or transfers.

  • This is because of fluctuating foreign exchange rates.
Do I need to register for international services?

Yes. You need to be registered for Pay Anyone function and have a daily Pay Anyone limit before you can register for international services.

Can I have access to international services without having access to Pay Anyone?

No. You must be registered for Pay Anyone function before you can apply for international services.

Where can I view exchange rates?

Foreign exchange rates applicable to international money transfers and international drafts can be viewed via the "Foreign exchange rates/currencies" link under the "International Services" section in the "Pay and Transfer" menu.

Can I send an international money transfer to all countries?

No. International money transfers can be sent to specified countries only.

  • Available currencies are listed in the "Country" drop down list accessible from the "Transfer Funds Overseas" link.
  • If you wish to transfer funds to a country not shown on this list, please visit your nearest ANZ branch.
How does the international money transfer calculation system work?

When you enter an amount in the "Amount in foreign currency" field or an amount in the "Australian dollars" field, then click on the "Calculate", whichever field is left blank will be automatically calculated by ANZ Internet Banking.

What can I see on the foreign exchange rates and available currencies pop-up page?

You can see the currencies available to transfer funds overseas and purchase an international draft from within ANZ Internet Banking on this page.

  • For each country, the national currency, abbreviation for the national currency and the current ANZ sell rate is displayed.
  • A tick in the international money transfer or international draft box means that the currency is available with that functionality.
How do I know if my payments are successful?

Whenever you confirm a payment/transfer you'll see a lodgement number and a receipt number. The receipt number confirms that the payment has been submitted successfully.

For scheduled payments, you can check the status and the receipt number via the "Past Payments/Transfers" page. For unsuccessful payments, the status will show as failed. You can also check the details of the payment to find the reason the payment failed.

  • The time that it takes for a transfer to be processed to your account will depend on the transfer type. Check your Electronic Banking Conditions of Use for details.
  • The time that it takes for the payee's account to be credited will depend on the policy and systems of the payee's bank.
  • If your enquiry relates to a transfer with a "Status unknown" message, please contact the ANZ Internet Banking Helpdesk on 13 33 50 (International callers: +61 3 9683 8833) 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • All International payments/transfers requested after 6.00pm (AEST) or on weekends or a public holiday for the same day transfer are debited immediately but are processed on the following bank business day.
  • Transfers from an ANZ Credit Card will be treated as a cash advance.
