Change my credit card type

To change your credit card type:

  • Go to the "View Accounts" landing page, which is the first page you see when you log on to ANZ Internet Banking. If you cannot locate it, go to the "Accounts" menu and select "View Accounts"
  • Select your credit card account by clicking on the account name
  • From the "Account Overview" page, click on the "Change your Credit Card type" link and follow the steps below.
Before requesting a change to your credit card type

Note the following:

  • Only the primary cardholder can request a change to their credit card type
  • This service is available for consumer credit cards only. To change your business credit card type, please visit your ANZ branch
  • This service is only available for currently promoted ANZ Credit Card products. If you wish to change from card products no longer promoted (such as ANZ Visa PAYCARD, ANZ Rewards Visa PAYCARD and ANZ Everyday Visa Debit account) you will need to visit your ANZ branch.
Step 1 - Read the overview information
  • The information on this page highlights the pre-requisites for changing your credit card type and explains what happens after the changeover
  • Use the "Compare ANZ credit cards" link to view the features of the cards available
  • If you want to change your existing limit, you can apply for a credit limit increase or credit limit decrease using the corresponding links
  • If you are satisfied your current credit limit will suit your needs, click "Continue".
Step 2 – Select your existing card
  • Using the "Card or account" dropdown, choose the existing card you wish to change (if it’s not already selected.

Step 3 – Choose your new card
  • Select the new card from options presented under "New card selection"

Step 4 – Enter your Frequent Flyer Number (Optional)
  • If you are an existing Qantas Frequent Flyer member and your new card is eligible for frequent flyer points, enter your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership number in the textbox
  • Note, you can choose to leave this blank
  • Click "Next".

Step 5 – Read the unused points information
  • Read the information that applies to the reward’s program of your existing card (where applicable)
  • Click "Next".

Step 6 – Provide optional information to ANZ
  • ANZ needs to understand your preferences in how we manage your new credit card
  • If you wish to consent to receive written credit limit increase invitations for this card in the future, select the checkbox in the "Credit limit increase invitations" section, after reading the associated terms and conditions
  • If you wish to consent to be charged an Overlimit fee when you exceed your credit card limit, select the checkbox in the "Overlimit fee" section after reading the associated terms and conditions
  • Click "Next".

Step 7 – Complete the declarations
  • Ensure you’ve read all the information provided on this screen
  • Click the first checkbox to declare you can afford the repayments on the new card
  • Click the second checkbox to authorise the closing of your existing account
  • Click "Submit" for ANZ to proceed with your request.

I am an additional cardholder. Can I request a change to the credit card type?

No. You must be a primary credit card holder to request a credit card type change.

Note: If the primary cardholder changes their credit card type, as the additional cardholder, you’ll also be transferred to the new credit card account.

Can I change to a different ANZ Credit Card in another way?

Yes. You can also contact the ANZ Cards Services team directly on 13 22 73 (International +61 3 9683 7043) 24 hours a day, seven days a week to arrange the change of credit card type over the phone.

Will my new card(s) have the same card number?

No. Your new card(s) will have a new card number and it is your responsibility to redirect any automatic payments from your existing card account to your new card account.

When will my existing ANZ Credit Card be closed?

Your existing ANZ Credit Card account will be closed 14 days after ANZ's receipt of your request or upon activation of your new card(s), whichever is sooner.

How long will it take to before I receive my new card(s)?

Your request will be processed within two business days of your application being approved by ANZ.

Your new ANZ Card(s) will then be sent to your postal address up to 5 business days after processing.

Will my reward points be transferred over to my new credit card account?

This depends on the type of rewards program your existing credit card account offers.

ANZ Rewards, ANZ Rewards Platinum and ANZ Balance Visa

  • Any reward points that remain unused must be used within 60 days of the date of closure
  • Reward points that remain unused on closed accounts after 60 days will be cancelled.

ANZ First and ANZ Platinum account holders

  • Members with the optional Sphere Rewards Program who are not transferring between ANZ First and ANZ Platinum must use their points within 60 days of the date of closure
  • Points that remain unused on closed accounts after 60 days will be cancelled
  • If you remain a member of the Sphere Rewards Program, then your points balance will transfer across.

ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold and ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum

  • All points are automatically credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account if you have provided ANZ with your Qantas Frequent Flyer number
  • If you haven't provided ANZ with your Qantas Frequent Flyer number please do so before closing of the account
  • If ANZ does not receive the account holder's Qantas Frequent Flyer membership number within 60 days after the date of closure, the points in the points record in respect of the card as at that date will be cancelled and may not be credited to a Qantas Frequent Flyer program account.
Can I request to change my ANZ Everyday Visa Debit using the Change Credit Type function?

No. This function is not available for ANZ Everyday Visa Debit cards. If you wish to change this card type, you'll need to call us on 13 33 33 between the hours of 8am and 8pm, Monday to Friday or visit an ANZ branch.
