    Anomaly

In financial markets, as elsewhere, a departure from the norm. Traders talk of anomalies in the yield curve when it deviates from the conventional shape. Money can be made by those who are quick to spot the anomalies and trade to take advantage of them. Anomalies can emerge between markets, between securities such as bills and bonds, and between time zones.
