A Security Device is a key ring sized device that is used by ANZ Internet Banking for Business customers who have been approved to authorise third-party transactions made online.

  • Your Security Device generates a new six digit number every 60 seconds.
  • This number is known as the Security Device Code.
  • You'll be asked to enter the number when making third party transactions (BPAY®, Pay Anyone, payroll payments, tax payments international transactions and direct debits).
  • The bar to the left of the Security Code shrinks by one block every ten seconds, counting down the 60 seconds until the code changes.
  • Your Security Device also has a serial number on the back of it. This number is unique to your Security Device and does not change.

Before using your security device

The ANZ Security Device is a key ring sized electronic token that displays a Security Code, which is required to authorise value transactions to third party accounts.

  • A different Security Code is displayed every 60 seconds.

Once you receive your Security Device, you need to activate it before it can be used. 

You must activate you ANZ Security Device before you use it for the first time:

  • Select “Profile” from the main navigation.
  • Select “ANZ Shield/ANZ Security Device”.
  • Select “ANZ Security Device” Tab.
  • Select “Activate ANZ Security Device”.
  • Confirm the Business Name displayed is the one associated with the ANZ Security Device that is being activated. To change the Business Name displayed on the screen the user should select the correct Business Name from the drop down box in the header.
  • If the correct Business Name is displayed on screen, you should enter the Security Device serial number exactly as displayed on the back of their Security Device and select “Submit” to submit the request.
  • You must verify that the mobile number displayed is the mobile phone number that they you are using. If it is, select “Send verification code”.
  • You’ll be sent a verification code to your mobile phone which you will need to enter into the relevant field.
  • Select “Verify” to submit your request.
  • Once the request has been submitted, a confirmation message will appear on screen to confirm that your ANZ Security Device has been successfully activated.

The ANZ Internet Banking for Business Administrator and/or Authoriser registered for a Security Device will receive it in the post within 10 bank business days from the date the Registration Helpdesk receiving the registration form.

In ANZ Internet Banking for Business, you will be asked to enter the Security Device Code each time you authorise a third party transaction.

  • This includes making a BPAY® payment, Pay Anyone, Payroll payment, international payment or initiating a direct debit.

No. It is a hand held device of key ring size, and is independent of your computer's operating system.

Everyday use of your security device

When authorising any third party payment you'll be prompted to enter the Security Code. The Security Code is the sequence of numbers displayed on your ANZ Security Device, which changes every 60 seconds. All you need to do is to punch in the numbers displayed and follow the prompts.

  • A different Security Code is displayed every 60 seconds.

The six digit number displayed on the face of the Security Device is the Security Code.

  • The narrow horizontal bars to the left of the number indicate how many 10 second blocks of time remain until the code changes again.

The Security Code number is in lock step with code numbers in the ANZ system. Each Security Device is matched to the customer's identity and cannot be used for any other customer or account.

No, other users cannot use your Security Device.

  • Your Security Device is unique and linked to your Customer Registration Number (CRN)
  • Other users will not be able to use your Security Device to authorise a payment
  • They must log in to their CRN and enter a new Security Device Code from their own Security Device in order to authorise a transaction.

No. You cannot share your Security Device with any other users.

  • Each Security Device is unique and linked to a particular CRN
  • You will not be able to use another person's Security Device to authorise any payment.

You will need to input the Security Code on the authorisation screen to determine which one is your Security Device.

  • Each Security Device holder should retain their device and keep it secure
  • You may also contact ANZ Internet Banking for Business Helpdesk on 1800 269 242 (International callers: +61 3 8699 6906) between 8.00am and 6.00pm (AEST), Monday to Friday to confirm the Security Device issued to you.

Only one Security Device will be issued for each CRN.

  • Once you have registered your Security Device with ANZ, it will be linked to your CRN
  • It will not work with any other user's CRN
  • If you have a number of ANZ Internet Banking for Business CRNs and many Security Devices, you may link a separate one for each CRNs
  • Alternatively you may request a single Security Device to be linked to all your CRNs and also link your different CRNs to a single Access CRN to access your ANZ Internet Banking for Business.

Yes. Your Security Device is linked to your CRN, not your computer. 

  • It can be used on any computer where you have access to the ANZ Internet Banking for Business.

You may contact ANZ Internet Banking for Business Helpdesk on 1800 269 242 (International callers: +61 3 8699 6906) between 8.00am and 6.00pm (AEST), Monday to Friday to confirm the Security Device issued to you.

  • A one time Security Code will be sent to you by SecureMail
  • It must be used within 60 minutes of issue
  • This temporary Security Code can only be used for one authorisation

If you have entered the wrong Security Code three times, you will get a message that your Security Device has been disabled.

  • You will need to contact ANZ Internet Banking for Business Helpdesk on 1800 269 242 (International callers: +61 3 8699 6906) between 8.00am and 6.00pm (AEST), Monday to Friday to confirm the Security Device issued to you.

No. As this is a transfer between your own accounts, and not a third party payment, the payments do not need to be authorised with a Security Device.

  • The approver will see a button to click, but will not be presented with a Security Code entry box.

If you lose your security device, you will need to contact ANZ Internet Banking for Business Helpdesk on 1800 269 242 (International callers: +61 3 8699 6906) between 8.00am and 6.00pm (AEST), Monday to Friday to advise us of this as soon as possible.

  • A fee of $25.00+GST will be charged for the new Security Device and the fee is set out in the ANZ Business Banking Transaction Accounts Fees and Charges.

It is possible to have an internationally based Administrator or Authoriser

ANZ Security Devices will be sent to the registered business mailing address and can be sent internationally via a courier service.

No, you only require one security option to authorise your payments.

Note that ANZ Shield will replace both your ANZ Security Device and one-time passcode.

Maintenance of your security device

The Security Device does not transmit or receive any radio or wireless signals of any kind. It contains only a chip, a lithium battery, and an LCD display similar to a digital watch.

The ANZ Security Device is expected to last for about five years from the date of manufacture.

  • ANZ will send out a replacement ANZ Security Device to customers prior to expiry.
  • Customers should not attempt to replace the lithium battery or open the device case.
  • There are no user serviceable parts in the ANZ Security Device.

The Security Device is a sealed unit and the battery is not replaceable.

  • If your Security Device battery is low it will display a small number 3 in the bottom right corner of the number display screen.
  • If this happens, you should call the ANZ Internet Banking for Business Helpdesk on 1800 269 242 (International callers: +61 3 8699 6906) between 8.00am and 6.00pm (AEST), Monday to Friday to to arrange for a new Security Device to be sent to you.
  • There are no user serviceable parts in the device.
