Private Business Research 2009

ANZ is committed to the private business sector and we are dedicated to understanding unique issues they face. This independent research, commissioned by ANZ and Fairfax Media, focussed on the challenges, priorities and sentiments of private businesses.

Some highlights from the research findings include:

Business owners are mostly concerned about sales and margins.
Concerns over cash flow management has increased significantly compared to 2008.
The most negative impact on business performance was slowing payment terms.
Managing costs, productivity and efficiency is the top priority for the next 12 months.
Increasing sales and protecting market share is the top priority for the next 3 years.
Management staff recruitment and retention is also a key priority for the short and longer term.
Increased sale of existing goods and services is by far the most likely avenue to growth.
