With contactless payments, you no longer need to swipe, enter your PIN or sign at the register when making purchases up to the contactless limit. Simply tap your ANZ credit or debit card at the reader, wait for the 'beep' and you're done.

How to use it

Making contactless payments

When making contactless payments up to the contactless limit with your ANZ card - simply follow these easy steps:

Step 1

Let the merchant know you'd like to pay with your contactless ANZ card.

Step 2

Confirm the amount, follow the onscreen prompts and hold your card to the terminal.

Step 3

Wait until you hear a 'beep'. Collect your receipt if you'd like one and you're done.

If you spend more than the contactless limit, you simply enter your PIN as usual – it's easy.

Contactless terminals are only able to make one transaction at a time. As a safeguard, each transaction must be completed or voided before another can take place. This means when making contactless payments you can be sure that payments are strictly taken only once from your account.

Frequently Asked Questions

Contactless is a payment method that doesn't require you to swipe or insert your card when making a purchase. This payment method is available when making purchases up to the contactless limit. All you need to do is tap your card at the terminal, wait for the 'beep' and then you are done. 

It'll save you time - because you don't have to enter a PIN or sign when you make a purchase up to the contactless limit at the terminal.

Retailers who display the contactless symbol should be able to accept contactless payments, however we suggest that you check with the retailer to make sure. Of course, you'll still be able to insert or swipe your card if they do not accept contactless payments.

You can make purchases up to the contactless limit without entering a PIN or signature. If your purchase value is over the contactless limit, then you will be prompted to enter your PIN or sign to finalise your transaction. 

Standard transaction fees and charges (PDF) will apply, however there are no additional fees charged for the use of contactless. 

No. Contactless terminals are only able to make one transaction at a time. As a safeguard, each transaction must be completed or voided before another can take place.

No.  The retailer must first enter the purchase amount before you can tap your card. You must hold your ANZ card within a few centimetres of the terminal for longer than half a second, to make a purchase. 

Contactless transactions use the latest encryption technology, and are processed through the same, reliable payment network as chip card transactions - making them just as secure.

No, you don't need to select an account type. When you pay using contactless.

  • When using contactless on an ANZ credit card, the transaction will be charged to your credit account.
  • When using contactless on an ANZ debit card, the transaction will be charged to the nominated account thay is linked to your card.

You can find out which account is the nominated default by checking the letter you would have received with your card or call 13 13 14.

 

Yes. If you prefer, you can insert or swipe your card and follow the prompts to complete your transaction.
