ANZ has had a continuous presence in Mainland China since 1986 when a representative office was established in Beijing. In 1993, a branch was opened in Shanghai. The Beijing representative office was upgraded to Branch status in 1997.

ANZ is the only Australasian based bank with both local and foreign currency commercial banking capabilities in Mainland China and is therefore in a unique position to help customers doing business in Mainland China. Its Shanghai and Beijing branches are full service commercial banks.

The branches offer deposit accounts, term working capital and syndicated loans, inward and outward money transfer and remittance services, travellers' cheque issuance and cashing facilities, foreign currency exchange services, capital certification accounts and a full range of trade-related services including Letters of Credit, pre and post shipment financing, bonding and guarantees. Bid and performance bonds and expertise in Government export credit assistance are also available.

ANZ can also assist with finance for customers that wish to purchase property in Australia or New Zealand, through its "Expat Mortgage" product, provided in a range of currencies to match the customer's income and suit individual preferences. Currencies include USD, HKD, AUD and NZD.

In addition ANZ is represented in Guangzhou through its Representation Office in that city.

ANZ's China operations are supported by a team of experienced China Group personnel located in ANZ offices in Melbourne, Sydney, New York, London, Wellington and Hong Kong.
