The Seeds grant assisted in funding a conference in August 2005, which was aimed at reaching a large number of small communities who plan to or are already operating farmers markets. The conference was attended by more than 160 delegates from across Australia and New Zealand. Many rural community groups hold Farmers Markets as a way to highlight local produce.
AFMA spokesperson, Jane Adams, said: "We are very thankful to receive the Seeds grant for the Market Power conference. Our organization is run by energetic volunteers determined to introduce as many communities as possible to the powerful economic and social benefits of farmers' markets. The Conference is an integral event for our organisation, and will undoubtedly boost this already vital community movement."
The Seeds grant was used to produce a full colour map brochure, available through the Cobram Visitor Information Centre, to list locations for the purchase of local produce from the Farm Gate Trail.
Project Coordinator Merran Socha said: "In smaller communities it can be hard to raise $5,000 or $10,000 dollars, yet at a local level grants of that size can do so much. When the Seeds of Renewal application form came across my desk, I thought 'perfect'.
Kayili Artists Aboriginal Corporation was successful in obtaining a Seeds grant to assist in renovating existing premises to provide a suitable environment for artists to work. The grant contributed to the purchase two solid lockable doors, air conditioning, fly screens and lockable windows, installation of septic system for a flushing toilet and retiling of bathroom facilities.
Kayili Artists spokesperson, Michael Stitfold, said: "We are very thankful to receive the Seeds grant for Kayili Artists. It's a fantastic opportunity for us to complete renovations."
F.A.U.N.A., an organisation dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife, received a Seeds grant to assist their ongoing educational program by purchasing much needed equipment to aid in the education of younger Australians.
F.A.U.N.A. spokesperson, Sue Holmes, said: "We are very thankful to receive the Seeds grant for the purchase of the educational equipment. It's a fantastic opportunity for us to increase our ability to present our education programs.
Esperance Art Society was successful in obtaining a Seeds grant to assist in covering costs for the Esperance Art Society Biennial 2005 art exhibition, which is a presentation and promotion of the arts.
Esperance Art Society spokesperson, Carole King, said: "We are very thankful to receive the Seeds grant for the Esperance Art Society Biennial 2005 art exhibition. It's a fantastic opportunity for us to further promote participation in the arts through these art awards."
Tintinara History Group was successful in obtaining a Seeds grant to assist with preserving the history of the area in photos, media clippings and memorabilia.
Tintinara History Group spokesperson, Audrey Tucker, said: "We are very thankful to receive the Seeds grant to help preserve the history of the area in photos and media clippings. It's a fantastic opportunity for us to purchase some acid free photo albums."
