ANZ's approach to Health, Safety and Security aims to support the physical, emotional and financial wellbeing of our people.
Our Health, Safety and Security strategy includes the development of a new management system, upgraded facilities and a Group-wide focus on health and safety awareness, accountability and behaviour. This strategy is supported by 18 health and safety committees across Australia, which includes employee and management representatives.

A number of team based and Group-wide programs are helping to enhance the physical, emotional and financial wellbeing of our people. These include:
- My Health which provides a paid physical
check-up during working hours to all Australian staff every two years.
Since its inception in June 2005 more than 7,922 Australian staff took
advantage of their "My Health" health check.
- My Health Online which provides all staff with
access to comprehensive health information. More than 4,800 staff have
registered for this service.
- The Global Corporate Challenge which is a
workplace fitness initiative, encourages staff to increase their daily
number of steps taken during the four month Challenge. In 2007, ANZ is
supporting 298 teams to participate from 15 countries around the world.
- 'Financial fitness' sessions to help staff
better understand and manage their personal finances. The sessions cover
financial literacy essentials such as budgeting and saving,
superannuation and retirement planning, and investment basics.
- ANZ's MoneyMinded financial literacy education program also makes money management training available to all staff and many of their families via our online training platform, eTrain.
As part of a Commonwealth Government Initiative, The University of Queensland is measuring the health of ANZ's Australian workforce via its WORC survey. WORC stands for Work Outcomes Research and Cost-Benefit Project and the survey examines physical and emotional health, including the incidence of depression. ANZ participates in the survey and in 2005 more than 2,500 employees undertook the survey. ANZ cannot access any personal information about employees, but the general outcomes of the WORC survey are used as a basis to develop and amend our wellbeing initiatives.
The Employee Assistance Program is a confidential counselling service available to all Australian and New Zealand employees. The service provides professional guidance and support with work or personal problems such as trauma, bereavement, relationship difficulties or dealing with change. The first three sessions are paid for by ANZ.
