Cultural transformation

Since 2000, more than 23,000 ANZ staff have experienced our Breakout workshops.

Breakout is ANZ's cultural transformation program and is part of our long-term commitment to creating a values-driven culture. This year, a major focus for the program is involving our frontline people who serve our customers. Almost 4,000 employees from the Personal Division have completed the "Breakout to the Frontline" program since it commenced in June 2005, with more than 120 additional workshops scheduled throughout the remainder of 2006.

Diversity

ANZ values an inclusive and flexible workplace where employee differences such as gender, age, culture, disability and lifestyle choice are not only valued, but are a key contributor to our success.

Employee engagement

ANZ is focused on creating an environment where our people are not only ’satisfied’ but are also engaged. Engagement means that ANZ employees say great things about our business to friends, family and customers, because they believe it. These staff also have a strong desire to stay at ANZ, and are motivated to strive for outstanding results every day.

We conduct a group-wide Engagement and Culture Survey each year to understand the views and concerns of our people and we use this feedback to develop and enhance our people policies and programs.

Life balance

Balancing work with other commitments and pursuits is vital to the health and wellbeing of our people. ANZ has introduced a number of programs to support flexible working arrangements and to create a family friendly working environment.

Performance management

ANZ's performance management system is designed to enhance business and personal growth. Its effectiveness relies on our people and their supervisors having frequent and robust conversations about performance, development and career options.

Remuneration and benefits

At ANZ people are rewarded for their positive behaviour, passion for our business and the results they achieve. We provide remuneration and benefits that are attractive and market competitive.

ANZ's remuneration strategy is directly aligned with stakeholder interests. We use a balanced scorecard evaluation for senior executives. Non-financial measures include evaluation against objectives related to staff, customers, the community and the environment.
