Achievements
John McFarlane, ANZ CEO

Here are some of our recent achievements in living our values to 'lead and inspire our people':

  • Health, safety and wellbeing: Strategic Health and Safety plans have been introduced to each division to support our zero harm approach to health, safety and security. Annual Operational Health, Safety and Environment plans are also being rolled out across all business units. Our Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate reduced from 4.2 to 3.8 in Australia.

  • Women in management: The percentage of females in executive positions increased from 19% in 2005 to 22% in 2006 in Australia. We also achieved an equal split of gender in our graduate recruitment for 2007 with 52% female graduates in Australia and 47% female graduates in New Zealand.

  • Employee engagement:Our score remains steady at 60% according to research conducted by Hewitt Associates. Our engagement score remains the highest of all major corporations in Australia and New Zealand and nine percentage points ahead of the banking and financial services sector benchmark.

  • Cultural change: This year 5,985 Personal division employees completed Breakout. We exceeded the target of 6,000 employees when the program completed on 12 October 2006. Overall, 6,905 people in Personal Division have completed the program since it commenced in July 2005.

  • Employee development programs: Our 'My Potential' program provides the top 20% of manager level employees with access to accelerated development programs including the Accelerated Learning Laboratory - a joint initiative of the Australian Graduate School of Management, ANZ and other leading business organisations.

  • Feedback tools: Our 360 degree feedback tool is now made available to all staff through our company intranet. It is also used to inform the development of our top 100 executives. In total, 905 employees used the tool in 2006.
