Spending Analysis Chart

What information does the Spending Analysis Chart provide?

The Spending Analysis Chart provides a graphic representation of your income versus spending over a specified period of time. At the bottom of the Spending Analysis Chart report you will see the same data in table format. Each cell in the table is a link that takes you to the transactions that match that particular total. You can choose to run the Spending Analysis Chart for the past 3, 6, 12 months, last year or this year.

The Spending Analysis Chart also displays the average monthly net cash flow and total net cash flow for the selected period.

How do I include business expenses in Spending Analysis Chart?

To include transactions that are classified as business expenses in the Spending Analysis Chart report:

Select the time period you want to see in the Spending Analysis Chart report from the Select Time Period drop-down menu.

Click the 'Show more charting options' link.

Select the Include business expenses in Spending Analysis check box.

Click Show for the updated Spending Analysis Chart report to appear.

How do I select different group views to display my Spending Analysis Chart?

You can choose to view a spending analysis chart for all accounts or for individual account groups that you created. In order to view the spending analysis chart for an account group, you must first Click the 'Show more charting options' link, then select the check box next to Spending Analysis on the Add or Edit Account Group page.

To select a different group view -

Select the group from the Group View drop-down menu.

Click Show for the Spending Analysis page to display the spending analysis report for your account/account group.

Expense Analysis

What information does the Expense Analysis provide?

The Expense Analysis provides a pie chart and a tabular representation of your expenses broken down by category.

The Expense Analysis report includes the category under which expenses were incurred, the percentage of total spending, and the $ amount that was spent. The Expense Analysis report displays only the top 10 spending categories and does not include transactions that are classified as Uncategorised.

Click a category name to see all transactions associated with the category and that were used to calculate the Expense Analysis report for the time period displayed.

You can choose to see the Expense Analysis report for the past week, or 1, 3, 6 or 12 months, or your entire spending history.

You can also choose to set budgets and manage your spending better by clicking the set budget goals by expense category link.

How do I include business expenses in Expense Analysis report?

To include the transactions that are classified as business expenses in the Expense Analysis report:

Select the Include Business Expenses check box from the Expense Analysis page.

Click Show for the updated Expense Analysis report to appear.

Budget vs. Actual Spending

What information does the Budget vs. Actual Spending report provide?

The Budget vs. Actual Spending report provides a graphical representation of the actual amount spent against the budget goal you defined. The chart shows how your actual spending matched up to the budget goals you set for yourself.

The solid bars in the chart indicate your actual spending and the clear bars indicate your budgeted values. You can click the category link to see all the transactions associated with that category and that were used to calculate spending for the time period displayed.

The Budget vs. Actual Spending Chart displays only those categories for which you set a budget goal.

How do I view spending reports for prior time frames?

You can choose to view charts for the past year-to-date or past month-to-date.

Make your choice from the show spending for the past drop-down menu.

Click "Go" to generate an updated Budget vs. Actual Spending chart.

Credit Card Utilisation Report

What information does the Credit Card Utilisation report provide?

The Credit Card Utilisation Report helps you evaluate how you have been using your credit cards. This report shows your current balance compared to the current credit limit for each of your credit cards.

The solid bars in the chart indicate your actual spending and the clear bars indicate your budgeted values.

Click the credit card link to view all of the transactions associated with that credit card and that were used to calculate spending for the time period displayed.

Click the card names displayed below the chart to view the account details information for the card.

How do I select different group views to display my credit card utilisation?

You can choose to view credit card utilisation chart for all your credit card accounts or for individual credit card account groups that you created. To do this, select the group from the Group View drop-down menu and click show.

To select a different group view -

Select the group from the Group View drop-down menu.

Click Show for the Credit Card Utilisation page to display the credit card utilisation chart for your credit card account/account group.

Set budget goals

Why should I have a budget?

Setting a budget helps you track your spending patterns and know where your money is being spent.

You can set budget goals to meet your personal goals. As time progresses, you can re-evaluate and adjust your individual budgets based on your awareness of your financial activities and spending habits.

What can I do on this page?

You can view your spending by category for the current month and an average over the past six months. After reviewing your spending, you can set budget goals and enable alerts. Budget goals can be set for individual categories and/or for total income or expenses.

This page also displays your total spending against your total income. You can receive alerts when you approach an established budget threshold for a specific category and receive weekly or monthly budget status reports

How can I receive budget status reports and alerts?

You can choose to receive budget status reports on weekly and/or monthly basis. Budget status reports contain the amount you have spent in each category compared to your budget target for all "included" categories.

You can also choose to be notified when the total amount spent/earned in any category comes within a particular percentage or threshold of your desired budget goal.

How do I configure a budget status report?

To configure a budget status report:

  1. Enter the monthly budget goal amount for each category.
  2. Check the "Include in Budget Status Report" box if this category should be included in your budget status report.
  3. Check the "Include in Threshold Alert" box if an alert must be triggered when your threshold limit is reached.
  4. Click Save Changes.

What are uncategorised transactions and how do I categorise them?

Transactions that are not classified under one of the available categories fall under uncategorised transactions. Click the uncategorised link to categorise the uncategorised transactions.

Personalised Report

How do I create personalised reports?

You can create your personalised reports for all transactions that were tagged as tax-deductible transactions, or medical, personal or business related expenses. You can choose to see the particular transaction report for the past week, 1, 3, 6, or 12 month intervals, or the entire transaction history.

Select the appropriate transaction class - Tax Deductible, Medical, Business Related, or Personal and duration from the drop-down menu and click Show.
