ANZ is a principal partner of The Long Walk 2005, which supports Indigenous leaders to develop and maintain programs for their communities and advocate for Indigenous issues across Australia.
Our involvement is part of ANZ’s broader commitment to help build stronger Indigenous communities and achieve practical reconciliation particularly through programs to improve the financial literacy knowledge, skills and confidence of Indigenous Australians.

Underpinning this commitment is our MoneyBusiness program, which is being developed and delivered in partnership with the Commonwealth Government’s Department of Family and Community Services. This program will provide money management training to Indigenous people while at the same time establishing a stronger savings culture in their communities.
ANZ's partnership with The Long Walk 2005 is designed to increase community participation in the event; promote Indigenous leadership at the highest levels of business and government, make use of our banking and call centre support services, and raise awareness of financial literacy programs in Indigenous communities.
The first Long Walk was held in November 2004, when AFL legend and Aboriginal activist Michael Long walked from Melbourne to Canberra to meet with Prime Minister John Howard to discuss a range of Indigenous issues including: health, education and employment.
The final leg of Michael Long's journey is a fundraising event in Melbourne where participants will walk 3.3 kilometres around Princes Park, Carlton, on Sunday 4 December 2005. A single ticket costs $15.
All funds raised by The Long Walk 2005 will go to the Sir Douglas Nicholls Fellowship for Indigenous Leadership.
