We impact the environment both through our use of resources and through the decisions we make about who to lend to, what to invest in, and how we purchase products and services.

Our Environment Charter (PDF, 67kb) reflects our commitment to minimise our environmental impact. Our Charter recognises that to be a trusted member of the community, we must be aware of how our business affects the environment and assist our customers identify and manage their impacts.

Our approach is focused on:

1. Reducing our environmental footprint:
   • cutting our consumption of water, electricity and paper
   • reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and waste.
2. Responsible business banking:
   • business decisions based on the highest social and environmental standards and assisting clients manage their impacts
   • developing sector specific social and environmental policies and applying the Equator Principles
   • developing product and services that assist customers reduce their environmental impact and manage environmental risks to their business.
3. Sustainable supply chain:
   • working with suppliers to ensure our social and environmental standards are reflected in our procurement of goods and services.
4. Partnerships:
   • three year partnership between ANZ Institutional and WWF Australia to raise awareness within ANZ of environmental issues.
