ANZ requires it's Internet merchants to comply with certain website security standards, where they wish to implement the Merchant Hosted solution.
One of these standards concerns the transmission of credit card details that must be secured by 128-bit SSL encryption. As part of the application process, Internet merchants need to complete a Secure Internet Site Declaration form. This allows ANZ to assess the merchant's security capabilities and if required, recommend the appropriate ANZ eGate implementation option.

As a minimum, merchants will need to use Internet Explorer 5.0 or Netscape Navigator 6.0 to be able to access the ANZ eGate Merchant Administration System. We recommend that merchants use the latest version of Internet Explorer to take advantage of the latest features offered by IE and to help ensure compatibility with future upgrades to ANZ eGate.

There are two different implementation options for ANZ eGate.
Bank Hosted where a merchant re-directs the purchaser to a secure payment page hosted by ANZ eGate to submit their credit card details. This method may be considered more secure than the Merchant Hosted option, as you are not exposed to the risk of credit card details being stored on your site Merchant Hosted is where you have a secure page hosted on your server so that the buyer submits all transaction details including their credit card details to your server that then communicates directly to the bank and receives the approval/decline response. This method also suits IVR and Call Centre systems.

Access to the ANZ eGate database is via the Merchant Administration System (MAS) that is password protected from unauthorised use. Merchants can also control access privileges for each individual user who has access to the MAS. For example, merchants can choose who has access to reports, who can make manual charges and refunds, and can create further users. All credit card details displayed in reports are truncated to protect them from unauthorised use. The database itself is protected from the external network by bank standard firewall security and is protected from unauthorised internal access by stringent security protocols.
