Since joining ANZ in 2002, Louis has held the positions of Managing Director Retail Banking and Managing Director Retail Distribution. These roles covered responsibility for the retail deposits business, which comprised ANZ's consumer transaction, savings and investment accounts, including Esanda Debentures at that time; and responsibility for the Australian Branch Network (824 branches), the Australian Call Centre and Specialist Business and Direct Channels respectively. Prior to joining ANZ, Louis was Managing Director of Avco Financial Services, responsible for the Australian and New Zealand operations covering consumer, insurance and commercial businesses with 1300 staff and 162 consumer and commercial branches. Louis has also held the position of General Manager Commercial Banking at Advance Bank. ![]() Mark Hand Mark Hand is Managing Director of Retail Distribution Mark is an experienced banker, having spent more than 22 years with ANZ in various roles. His most recent role has been as General Manager, Regional Commercial Banking. In his two years in this role, he achieved significant profit growth, and led the recent acquisition of Landmark Financial Services from AWB Limited which took ANZ to number two in the agribusiness farm gate market. He also extended the small business banking proposition to regional Australia while in this role. He joined ANZ in 1988 in Group Audit. After a number of years auditing various divisions of the bank, Mark spent four years as the Head of Audit for Middle East and South Asia, based in Mumbai, India. In this role he was responsible for monitoring and reporting on risk exposures across the ANZ portfolio of 15 countries. After returning to Australia in 2000, Mark was appointed Head of Credit and Operating Risk for SME Banking. He subsequently moved to the frontline as District Manager, Melbourne CBD in Business Banking, and then became State Manager, Business Banking for Victoria and Tasmania, before becoming General Manager of the Business Banking Manager segment. Mark holds a Bachelor of Business and a Masters of Business Administration from Deakin University, a CPA and is an alumni of the Williamson Community Leadership Program. He is also Chairman of the ANZ Staff Foundation. Mark Whelan Managing Director, Commercial Banking Mark Whelan has been in banking for 26 years, and has vast experience in the Asian Market and Institutional banking. Prior to joining Commercial Banking he was Managing Director of ANZ’s Institutional, Commercial and Private Bank businesses based in Hong Kong. Mark joined ANZ in November 2004 as Head of Sales, Markets, before taking on the role of Joint Managing Director, Markets, in 2005 and then Managing Director, Institutional Asia, in 2007. Prior to joining ANZ, Mark worked at Westpac where he held several senior roles including General Manager, Global Investor Sales, and General Manager, Institutional Banking, Victoria. Mark holds a Graduate Diploma in Taxation and a Diploma in Accounting from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT). Mark is a Fellow of the Certified Practicing Accountants (CPA) and a member of the Financial Treasury Association, the Australian Financial Markets Association and the Australian Institute of Company Directors. As General Manager Operations, John is responsible for all processes that deliver products and services to Australia's Retail, Commercial and Wealth customers. John also has responsibility for ANZ's approach to Retail Operations globally. Prior to this role, he was Managing Director, Retail Products. The Retail Products business develops and provides credit cards, mortgages, transaction accounts and personal loan products for retail customers, as well as EFTPOS services for retail merchants and commercial cards for corporate clients. Under John’s leadership of this business, ANZ has produced strong market share and revenue growth and maintained the lead position of the major banks in customer satisfaction. John also heads up the ANZ Disability Action Plan and is also a member of the Corporate Responsibility Committee. John’s previous role was Managing Director, Consumer Finance where he was also responsible for ATM businesses, ANZ's call centres and online banking. John was also responsible for Banking Products and the management of ANZ's consumer brand marketing. Before leading Banking Products, John was the General Manager, Retail Mortgages where he oversaw record growth and sales for ANZ's Australian mortgage products. John has a strong product, marketing and project background. This includes managing all ANZ’s retail banking products and leading the marketing agenda for the banking and property businesses at Town & Country in WA prior to ANZ’s acquisition in 1990. He held senior roles with the Challenge Bank Group and was responsible for managing the ASX listing and the conversion of Perth Building Society Group into Challenge Bank. John holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia. He is married with three daughters, enjoys cycling, most sports and reading andhas had long standing roles on the Council of his children’s school. Jon joined ANZ from first direct in the United Kingdom (a subsidiary of HSBC Group), where he held a number of positions including Finance Director, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Executive Officer, with responsibility for finance, analytics and all aspects of strategic change. Prior to joining first direct, Jon was Head of Group reporting at Bradford & Bingley, after spending several years as a Management Consultant with Ernst & Young. In his time at Ernst & Young, Jon delivered performance management and business transformation solutions across many industries, though specialising in personal financial services. At the start of his career, Jon worked in a variety of management accounting positions for BG International and Courtaulds. Jon has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Accounting, is a Chartered Accountant and has a Masters of Business Administration from Henley Management College in the United Kingdom. Mike has held a number of senior positions at GE Money including Managing Director GE Money Direct A&NZ and Vice President Portfolio Management, GE Money A&NZ. Prior to this Mike held positions at NAB as Head of Marketing and Risk Consumer Cards and as Chief Operating Officer at Halifax/BankOne Credit Cards. Mike started his career at GE Money in a number of risk roles including Vice President Risk Management at GE Money Global, Head of Risk & Portfolio Management at GE Capital (Aus) and Head of Risk GE Money Europe. Mike has been a Director of the Australian Finance Congress from 2006 to 2009 (Chairman 2007) and Director of the Women's Cancer Foundation since 2006.
