Our Code of Conduct and Ethics is a set of eight guiding principles that set the standards for the way we do business at ANZ. It is a requirement that all ANZ employees comply with our Code of Conduct and Ethics, and this applies equally to employees who are permanent or temporary, contractors and consultants.
A Non-Executive Directors' Code of Conduct guides ANZ non-executive directors in pursuing the highest ethical standards in the interests of shareholders, employees, customers and the communities in which we operate.
We encourage our banking partners (such as suppliers, related bodies corporate, joint venture partners or companies in which ANZ is a strategic investor) to adopt and maintain similar conduct and ethics principles to those outlined in our Code of Conduct and Ethics.
Our commitment to preventing, detecting and reporting bribery, fraud and corruption
We have robust policies and procedures to proactively prevent bribery, fraud and corruption.
- ANZ’s Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption Policy prohibits employees and contractors of ANZ from offering, promising, providing, requesting or receiving bribes directly, indirectly or through third parties, in any form, including kickbacks and facilitation payments. The Policy is based on Australian and international legislation and best practice, including guidance issued by Transparency International and Social Accountability International.
- ANZ’s Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Terrorism Financing Policy establishes minimum standards, guiding and directing our Group-wide approach to detecting and deterring money laundering and terrorism financing activities.
- ANZ’s Global Fraud Policy directs a globally consistent understanding of fraud across ANZ and outlines each person’s responsibilities to prevent and detect fraud and how to report suspected or actual fraud.
We encourage our partners (such as suppliers and service providers) to adopt and maintain similar conduct and ethics principles.
ANZ actively encourages openness, integrity and accountability. The ANZ Whistleblower Protection Policy provides a means by which our employees and contractors can raise concerns regarding actual or suspected contraventions of our ethical and legal standards without fear of reprisal, dismissal or discrimination.
Compliance with our Code of Conduct and Ethics is monitored by both Internal Audit and Risk and is embedded in ANZ employment contracts, recruitment and performance management activities.
Breaches of operational, regulatory and compliance requirements are tracked using an online reporting system and case management, with corrective action monitored until the case is ‘closed’. All breaches of the Code are reported annually to our Governance Committee and publicly via our Corporate Sustainability Reviews.
