We have just reached an important milestone in our Indigenous traineeship program with the appointment of our 800th Indigenous trainee. Now in its twelfth year, the program offers traineeships to Indigenous students in years 11 and 12 at secondary school via the School Based Traineeship, as well as Full Time Traineeships to those no longer in full time studies.
Sinoma Gilbert joined our Indigenous School Based Traineeship at the age of 16. She worked at our Mudgee branch one day a week while studying towards a Certificate II in Business Services with the Department of Vocational Education and Training.
After high school, Sinoma transitioned into a permanent role at the Mudgee branch as a Service Consultant. She then rose through the ranks to a senior banking role in Sydney and became Branch Manager of an ANZ Sydney branch, at the age of only 22.
During her traineeship, Sinoma’s mentor and manager was Liz O’Toole at the Mudgee branch, who guided her development and provided support during the traineeship.
“Liz played a huge role in my development, and was critical in helping me reach my potential. One of the key things I took away from the traineeship was the value in learning from your managers, colleagues and customers,” says Sinoma.
