Saver Plus, Australia’s longest running financial education and matched savings program, has helped 20,000 participants save more than $13.5 million.
Martina Conlon, Saver Plus worker with one of our delivery partners, Berry Street, at their Dandenong site in Victoria, first met the women of the Afghan ELF Play Group over ten months ago when they joined Saver Plus. Ten months on, not only have they been successful in achieving their savings goals, but for some this was also the first time they had their own bank account.
Martina said 'I am very lucky as I have two ANZ champions, as well as the full support of the Branch Managers at the Springvale and Dandenong Plaza ANZ branches. Both branch managers have allowed me to hold workshops in the branch after hours, which has enabled me to keep the communities together.'
An initiative of ANZ and the Brotherhood of St Laurence, Saver Plus was first piloted in 2003 to support lower income earners to develop a savings habit. Saver Plus encourages participants to set a savings goal, save up to $25 a fortnight and attend financial education workshops.
