Supporting financial inclusion in the Pacific is a priority for ANZ, particularly with respect to customers in rural and remote areas. Following a successful launch last year in Papua New Guinea, Samoa and the Solomon Islands, ANZ goMoneyTM also recently became available to customers in Vanuatu.
ANZ goMoneyTM enables customers to pay for goods and deposit and withdraw their money in locations convenient to them, without the need to go to a branch or carry cash. In addition, it ensures that customers no longer need to travel long distances to perform their banking. Launched in Australia in 2010, there are now more than 1.2 million customers registered to use goMoneyTM.
Speaking at the launch of ANZ goMoneyTM in Port Vila, Prime Minister of Vanuatu, Honourable Moana Carcasses Kalosil, welcomed the initiative.
‘The financial security of our population is a key goal for our government,’ said Prime Minister Kalosil.
‘The key to a wealthy Vanuatu is to ensure we provide not only education and financial literacy for our people, but also the means for our people to save money. By providing this mobile phone banking service, ANZ is supporting us in this vision.’
