Corporate and Commercial Banking at ANZ is about taking care of business!  From smaller home based businesses right through to large corporate clients, operations and everything in between, the division has a diverse focus on day to day banking, lending and  investments and helping our commercial and corporate customers achieve their goals.

Corporate and Commercial Banking delivers solutions for the commercial market through our Small Business Banking, Business Banking and Regional Business and Corporate business units, as well as through our dedicated auto finance business, Esanda.

Whether working in the frontline, or in a head office support role, our aim is to provide fast, accurate and knowledgeable services to our customers – so that we maintain our number one position in customer satisfaction in business banking.

What to expect in your 8-week Corporate and Commercial Internship:

Interns will spend time in one of the following areas of Corporate and Commercial during their summer internship:

The work activities interns undertake will support the business to deliver results. You will have opportunities to work autonomously but also within and across teams and contribute to the delivery of projects to support Commercial and/or Corporate banking staff.  There are also networking events to attend during your internship that will put you in touch with the right people to help build your knowledge of ANZ’s business and culture. 

Who makes a good Corporate and Commercial Intern at ANZ?

As a Corporate and Commercial intern you will need to have had some experience in a customer facing role, for example, in a part time capacity during your university studies. Ideally you’ll have a base level of understanding when it comes to the principles behind how a business operates from a banking perspective, this might have come from your university studies and/or work.

The Regional Business Banking Summer Internship at ANZ is all about developing a pipeline of talent to support our commercial and agribusiness customers across regional Australia. This internship aims to give participants the opportunity to develop an understanding of banking needs within the regional communities they live and work within. The internship may act as a feeder into the Regional Australia Graduate Program in 2017 where bankers will build a more intimate knowledge of our customers' needs, the unique challenges they face and the financial solutions that will assist them.   

Where will you be located?

ANZ have over 300 business centres located in regional Australia, so there are a lot of possible locations for you to complete the 8 week internship in!  Simply let us know where you live when you complete your application and we can assess where the best experience will be taking into consideration your home location.

What to expect in your 8-week Regional Internship:

Interns will spend the majority of time with one of our Regional Business Bankers, someone who’s in the know when it comes to this customer set and can give you a good overview of this area of ANZ. 

It’s likely you’ll spend time both in and out of the office environment learning banking systems and processes coupled with some client or site visits – it’s important to know how both play a part in being successful at ANZ in regional areas.

There may be a requirement to attend an ANZ head office activity to undertake further learning or connect you with relevant people and process, so we can share that with you closer to when you commence the internship.

Regional Business Banking interns can expect to be involved in the following during their placement:

  • challenging projects
  • collaborating across functional areas of ANZ with teams and stakeholders
  • training and development to understand customer process
  • developing an in-house understanding of the customer proposition.

The work activities interns undertake will support the business to get results. You will have opportunities to work autonomously but also within and across teams and contribute to the delivery of projects to support Commercial and/or Corporate banking staff. There are also networking events to attend during your internship that will put you in touch with the right people to help build your knowledge of ANZ’s business and culture. 

Who makes a good Regional Intern at ANZ?

ANZ Regional interns will have a passion for wanting to find out more about banking in regional Australia and agribusiness. Successful people within our team take an end-to-end approach to their work and hold a genuine interest in assisting customers involved in agriculture, land and environment based businesses. If you’re after a ‘taste’ of this side of ANZ’s business and studying Agriculture, preferably with some finance/commerce subjects, then it’s perfect for you!

Students who are studying towards a Commerce, Business or Agriculture related degrees with consistently high grades may be well suited to a role in regional banking.

  • Key support functions e.g. Strategy, Marketing, Operations.

The work interns undertake will actively contribute to the business delivering results. You will have opportunities to work within and across teams. You will also support our offer to customers through your contribution to administrative and relationship based activities.

To get the most out of your internship it will be important for you to take ownership of your time and make the most of the opportunities that come your way. There are many ways to make your experience more effective and enjoyable, for example: attending networking events and taking on challenging work or projects. Who makes a good Global Wealth Intern?

Global Wealth interns should come to the role with a strong customer focus and a genuine interest in helping people manage their finances to reach their life goals. Naturally good communicators, you will ideally have some experience in dealing with customers and have the flexibility to adapt to a range of situations.

When it comes to Global Wealth the ability to build strong relationships with customers, colleagues and key stakeholders across the bank will be an asset.

Global Wealth has a vibrant and energetic culture and those that thrive in a challenging and changing environment will enjoy this area. Investigative and helpful individuals are welcome here! As well as having a strong customer focus we are looking for people who have the ability and skills to absorb new information about financial products and services and are able to assess complex financial data and create detailed reports that are easy to understand.

International and Institutional Banking

International & Institutional Banking provides global financial services to government and institutional customers. Our people are focused on providing solutions for customers with complex financial needs.

As an IIB intern you will have exposure to some of the best in the business who are focused on providing solutions for clients with complex financial needs, based on a deep understanding of our clients’ businesses and industries.

What to expect in your 8-week IIB Internship:

Institutional Client Group (Global Banking & International Banking)

Global Banking (GB)

Global Banking leads and provides best practice industry focus on all of our segments. This will ensure our industry expertise, which differentiates us from our competitors, is implemented for all customers – regardless of which ANZ business they are serviced by: International Banking, Retail Banking or Global Products.

Global Banking is broken down into the following segments:

  • Financial Institutions Group (clients include: Banks, Fund Managers, Insurers & other non-Bank Financial Institutions)
  • Resources, Energy and Infrastructure
  • Global Diversified Industries

International Banking (IB)

International Banking represents more than 17,000 customers across 33 markets. It generates $2 billion in revenue for ANZ with a significant franchise growth opportunity. IB operates as one integrated segment focusing on servicing corporate relationships of various sizes and industries in each country, including our existing commercial business all the way to large.

Credit & Capital Management

Credit and Capital Management is responsible for helping to strengthen our business execution and performance. This is primarily done by:

  • Running our client specific deal and credit approval and ongoing management processes (relationship, products and geographies) using the Research & Analytics teams globally;
  • Deliver complete end-to-end client specific solutions, across all areas of the business and product areas
  • Simplifying our credit processes to improve speed and efficiency; and
  • Ensuring that the capital invested in the business is optimally managed to generate the best return possible for the Division. 
  • Working closely with Risk to review and define the risk appetite statements for I&IB and its constituent parts (clients, products and geography) so that I&IB's risk appetite is aligned to its commercial ambitions, both at a strategic level and at a client level.

Business Performance Management

Business Performance Management (BPM) brings together a range of functions and provides centers of excellence to better harness and use IIB’s intellectual property more efficiently. BPM monitors and improves delivery to our customers.

Customer Solutions Group (CSG) is part of Business Performance Management (BPM) and supports IIB with proactive, disciplined generation of highly commercial, value-add solutions for customers and improved frameworks to ensure more consistent delivery of customer and performance outcomes.

CSG is organised into five areas:

Global Loans

Global Loans & Advisory is responsible for the provision of lending solutions to ANZ’s Institutional Client Group and Corporate & Commercial customer base. Global Loans & Advisory consists of seven global lines of business: Project & Export Finance, Structured Asset Finance, Leveraged & Acquisition Finance, Loan Syndications, Corporate Advisory and Loan Product & Execution together with Business Control & Delivery. Global Loans & Advisory is recognized as a center of excellence for its skills in specialist credit analysis, advisory services, structuring, execution and ongoing monitoring of customer transactions.

Global Markets

Global Markets delivers innovative product solutions across foreign exchange, capital markets, fixed income, commodities, as well as specialist research and risk management expertise.

More than 1400 professionals work in our team in dealing rooms located in the major financial hubs of London, New York, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore, Wellington, Auckland, Sydney and Melbourne, as well as Mumbai, Beijing, Taipei, Jakarta, Manila, Hanoi and Seoul, with access to a global network of 30 countries.

Global Transaction Banking

Global Transaction Banking (GTB) is a global business that provides specialist sales, product management and service expertise to assist clients with their day to day working capital, cash flow and global trade requirements. GTB also provides sophisticated tools to help our clients control and manage their global multi-currency cash flows.

The GTB business develops products and channel solutions from design through to commercialisation and manages their ongoing end-to-end performance throughout the product life cycle. Our focus is designing, developing and implementing solutions that meet the client's needs. The client is at the centre of everything we do.

GTB consists of two key businesses.

  • Payments and Cash Management (PCM)
  • Trade and Supply Chain (TSC)

Whilst GTB forms one of the specialist product businesses within the global Institutional business within ANZ, Transaction Banking is a fundamental requirement of all companies, small or large, domestic or international. All our Institutional, Financial Institutions (FI), Corporate and Commercial clients have different payments, collections, liquidity, trade and risk management requirements.

They all trade domestically or internationally and every industry and market has different regulations, infrastructure and market practices. Transaction Banking provides consultancy, advice and a range of solutions focused on addressing our clients' cash flow and working capital needs.

Retail Banking

The Retail Banking division deals with everything to do with selling ANZ products and services - from branch management and product development to marketing and online strategy.

The Retail customer facing business is supported by an innovative Products and Marketing business responsible for delivering a range of products including credit cards, mortgages, transaction banking, savings accounts and deposits, and personal loans.

Technology Service Management plays a critical role in keeping ANZ’s IT systems operating, globally. Technology Service Management develops and maintains the technology infrastructure solutions that support our branches, ATMs and internet banking, enabling us to offer simple and convenient access for our customers. Our team ensures that our IT systems meet the highest standards of service, security and efficiency - all crucial indicators of success as we become a ‘super- regional’ bank.

Who makes a good Technology intern at ANZ?

As a Technology Intern at ANZ, it's a given that you'll have strong technical ability.  In addition, you will possess critical thinking skills, and will enjoy working with others as a team player who can also execute tasks autonomously.

Understanding how technology supports and shapes the way we do business, for ourselves internally and for our customers, is something you will learn early in your internship.  You may have had some exposure to this already, either through part-time work or on projects at university, which will be beneficial. You are an individual who appreciates the significance of information technology in business and is passionate about providing service delivery to the highest standards.
